We must take whatever deal the US offers. We have no leverage. The US is the ONLY table, so we would in fact be, as you say, a "colony". Not a nation.

Classical liberalism and Conservatism both agree on small government. The split is around the role of individuals vs institutions. 2A is actually a liberal ideal to support freedom. Conservatives ideals on exec authority to support social order
