NEW: A cell site simulator, commonly referred to as an IMSI catcher or Stingray, showed up on eBay this week for $50,000.
After I inquired about the listing, eBay pulled it down.

Harris Hailstorm cell site simulator surveillance device is up for sale on eBay for $50k (says tested & working). Even ships this ITAR restricted item international! 2nd photo from a Harris doc proves it's Hailstorm. See https://t.co/Y7faYRFDaG archived at https://t.co/VTr3wBsiMA
I recently did a #StingRay#IMSICatcher presentation at the Know For One cybersecurity conference out of Chile: "History and Security Implications of Sensitive Government Cell Phone Surveillance Equipment Sold on... eBay" Some Harris gear still for sale!

@Sass1968zz I didn't like that one, because they got things wrong. The two episodes about me on Netflix, from "Web of Make Believe," are more accurate and entertaining.
@infosecfactory Pretty amazing someone paid that. It must have been a collector of antique surveillance stuff. The most I've seen someone pay was $20k for a rack of Triggerfish equipment, and $10k for an Amberjack antenna. The antenna would have been cool to have, as it could actually be used.
@NYC0N_6 I used the "suggest an edit" feature of the app to correct a street name that was misspelled once. It took Google three months to respond, telling me my suggestion was rejected. The street remains misspelled on Google maps to this day.
@dogdaddevan I see the markers feature in the Google maps app, but isn't that just for the user's personal viewing, and not seen by anyone else? In the screenshot I posted, the business name added to the school could be seen by all users.
@RosaBBaker_ Hi Rosa. I haven't heard back from the seller, but I've gotten other similar equipment in the past... Thank you for the compliment :) In what classes did you write papers about me?
More antique Harris Triggerfish/ StingRay related law enforcement cell phone tracking gear on eBay for $1000. Buy it while you still can, lol. I offered the seller $40 😁 #stingray#cellsitesimulator#css#surveillance https://t.co/ugyn2So8fn

Read my latest article about FBI mission-creep regarding the FBI iris (eyeball) photo databases. FBI is collecting iris images from federal & foreign partners of people who have never been arrested, jailed, or convicted.
https://t.co/tMeh7Kh3J2
Mission-Creep Alert: FBI iris image databases now include eyes of non-criminal justice subjects, "not collected pursuant to the evidentiary threshold (i.e. arrest, a subsequent criminal proceeding, incarceration, or post-trial release);" obtained from "foreign partners."

The FBI allows local and state law enforcement to add iris (eyeball) photos to its iris database(NGI-IS) whenever someone is passed through the criminal justice system. If any agency or department within your state sends iris photos to the FBI, please respond to this tweet letting me know, with links to any documentary evidence. Thanks! #privacy #surveillance
@osha3264 Airplane mode would render the Stingray ineffective because that mode is supposed to turn off the phone's radio. But it's theoretically possible to install malware on a phone to make the user think airplane mode is on while it's actually still off.
