@MartinSLewis My wife looks after our kids and I bring in the only income just over £60k meaning we have to pay child benefit all back. A good wage isn’t enough these days. Every month is a struggle with 2 growing kids (6 & 3yrs old).

Median UK mortgage of £184,376 over 20-years at 7%, is £1,430.

Energy Price Cap (average): £173
Water bill: £34
Average household food spend: £464
Average transport spend: £351
Council Tax: £167
Insurance: £100

Total: £2,719 per month.

The average UK family can no longer afford to pay for the basics.

And this before any discretionary spending.

The UK Government is pretending that nothing is happening and praying for a magic money tree.
