Gretchen Felker-Martin wasn't fired because of online discourse. She didn't get fired because of the quality of the comic she wrote. She got fired because she, as a trans woman, refused to show sympathy

And of course the writing here is brilliant too. “What happened to you, Jason?” is already a pretty well packed punch by itself, and Jason’s reply “You should see the other guy.” is red hood’s deadpan humor and avoidant of a real answer. Then the pov flashback panel. Great work.
