I’m fixated on Plato’s Allegory of the Cave. I’m seeing representations everywhere. Cannot shake it.
Epistemology: a disease or disorder? Am I learning or discovering a syndrome?
@AmyThunig @QandA A decade ago, I was mistaken for Stan Grant when flying business into the Gold Coast. The woman next to me asked if I could sign the book she was reading. She was elderly, expensive clothes, and leathery sun skin: reading Mills & Boon. “Moment of truth or playfulness”, I thought.
@gcooke42@Peter_Fitz Section 1, Australian Constitution, the Queen and others comprise the legislative power of the Commonwealth of Australia.
Will the monarch be covered by the new ICAC?
Honours for donations.
@simonahac@tanya_plibersek Hannah Arendt compellingly argues for ‘just’ civil disobedience. It’s essential for a functioning democracy, along with media exposure.
But, qualifies Arendt, to be justified disobedience it must be public and in a group.
That’s what I teach students: activism is bravery.
@emma__jayne14 Hume’s argument grasps the last straw.
Could Hume also say that about any profession - law, police, medical, military, teaching, etc - that has ethics boards?
@MikeCarlton01 Plagiarism?
Pope Urban II, at Clermont, 1095, initiating crusades. Deus vult!
"All who die by the way, whether by land or by sea, or in battle against the pagans, shall have immediate remission of sins. This I grant them through the power of God with which I am invested.”
@koala_bill@MikeCarlton01 Many rules should be annulled.

@ShawnRuby7@Collectivis1The Platonism in St Augustine’s Christian doctrine?
• God is The Good.
• Light reveals knowledge.
• The highest knowledge is the Form of the Good.
• The Soul is immortal.
• The most knowledgeable and wisest should rule.
• Ultimate knowledge is beyond man, hence mystical.
CLUB NEWS- Sunday Morning Marxism
Democracy is truth. All other forms are a negation of truth.
“All forms of the state have democracy for their truth, and for that reason are false to the extent that they are not democracy.”
Marx, Critique of Hegel’s Philosophy of Right (1843)
@ShawnRuby7@Collectivis1The Neoplatonism’s city of God. Democracy is rule by popularity. Neoplatonism is rule by the Good, a recipe for theocracy. Plato asks, should not the wisest rule? Aristotle’s mixed constitution combining modes of government proves the most effective, but is still fragile.
@Collectivis1The@ShawnRuby7 Plato stressed communitarianism. Find your cog in society and specialise. By enriching the community as a priority it is possible to have a Good life. But, says Aristotle, man is a political animal and whoever controls popular democracy, will exploit others.
