#OnThisDay in 1879, Cal Rodgers was born, in Pittsburgh, USA.
Rodgers was the first deaf pilot in the USA, and an American aviation pioneer.
He made the first transcontinental airplane flight across the U.S. in 1911, making him a national celebrity.
OTD in 1876, Edward Bartlett Nitchie was born.
Nitchie founded the New York School for the Hard of Hearing and authored many influential books on #lipreading including the book Derek’s holding - ‘Lipreading Principles and Practise’
