He also shared a platform in England with a member of Hizb ut-Tahrir — an Islamist fundamentalist organization — that is opposed to the existence of the state of Israel and banned in Britain.

With these qualifications, I'm surprised Birju doesn't head up a more illustrious Human Rights Commission. Like the one in Gaza.

Actually it hasn’t always voted Liberal. Minister Barbara McDougall held the seat for almost 10 years with Brian Mulroney as PM. The riding swung twice between the Tories and the Liberals under John Roberts and Ron Atkey. That ended when Conservatives stopped being Progressive.
