African Campaigner, filling the world with the promises of Renewable Energy, one climate policy at a time.
I tried fossil fuels once - it was horrible! 🆘🤮🚯
"Africa consumes what we don't produce and produces what we don't consume."
PSA's Senior Advisor @DeanBhebhe reflects on expectations from the World Bank's Mission 300 – a very ambitious and important initiative if framed right.
How can this work?
The initiative must be rooted in dignity rather than just impact. This means not excluding gas and other false solutions as a part of the #Mission300 energy mix.
Africa's civil society is ready to collaborate with the World Bank to find pathways that move Africa from an extractive economic model towards one that actively addresses Africa's development needs.
WATCH: What is the REAL cost of fossil fuel energy for Africa?
At the #AlternativeMiningIndaba, our Senior Just Transitions & Campaigns Advisor, @DeanBhebhe, unpacks how debt structures trap oil and gas-rich nations like Nigeria and Mozambique in poverty, despite their fossil fuel exports.
It's time to ask the right questions!

10 ways US Exit from the Paris Climate Agreement Could Affect Africa (And How to Ride the Storm)
We know, we know. This feels like deja vu! It hasn’t been a week and Trump has already taken over the news cycles, overshadowing so many other stories.

@ghornerhb@PowerShftAfrica Ah yes, the best way to fight climate change: shame the people trying to solve it.
Who needs international cooperation when we could just ask all 40,000 delegates to hop on Zoom from their backyards, as long as the Wi-Fi’s powered by windmills, of course? 😒
Kenya was negotiating on behalf of Africa at the recent climate talks at #COP29Baku in Azerbaijan 🇦🇿. What many Kenyans do not know, however, is that for 2 weeks, we struck win after win at this global summit. Here's a short feel-good 🧵

African leaders or rather developing countries were held hostage and failed to communicate that climate finance is not a charity but a responsibility rooted in historic accountability.
Baku was a failure.
It has been so hard to find the right words to describe the COP29 outcome. I have struggled to put down my reflections because the utter disrespect from developed countries is one of the most shameful things in climate diplomacy. A thread of with my reflections:
4) Global Clean Power Alliance: A group of 12 countries have come together in a. commitment to accelerate energy adoption. Weird right? Considering COP29 did not acknowledge the outcomes of COP28 on the necessity to transition away from Fossil Fuels.
3) A new buzz word: "mobilised Finance". What they actually mean is that developed countries will make developing countries pay. No one is coming to save you even though you are not the reason why we are in a climate collapse.
2) $300b per year by 2035, a figure so inadequate and lacking in ambition and dignity to provide developing countries with the means of implementation to tackle climate change. Whatever the cost, paying for ambitious climate action now would have been far cheaper
@K_Mokgonyana@PowerShftAfrica Young lady you have a very bright future.I am following your journey closely. Valid and critical points have been raised 💯💯🔥
"Africa possesses a wealth of critical mineral resources. However, the financing for the just energy transition is currently disconnected from this resource base, a gap that must be addressed."
This morning at the Regional Climate Foundations Pavilion, @DeanBhebhe shared key insights on Africa’s critical minerals and their role in driving the just energy transition.
@ClimateEnvoyKe@ClimateEnvoyKe Africa has shown exceptional leadership at COP29, pushing for an ambitious NCQG that is grounded on dignity.
Africa must remind the world that climate finance is a moral obligation, not charity. COP29 is a critical chance for real action 🔥💯🌶️
Climate finance isn’t charity—it’s a moral obligation rooted in historic accountability. It’s time to end the shameful neglect. The world 🌍is watching. #ClimateJustice#FinanceCOP#GlobalSouth
SPOTTED: Senior Just Transition and Associate @DeanBhebhe is in #COP29Baku this week.
"I am here at COP to push back on the false promises under Article 6. The “unprecedented” decision to greenlight the rules in the opening plenary of COP29 regarding carbon credits under Article 6 is a dangerous and short-sighted ambition. Carbon credits are, in essence, permits to pollute."

I've written this for @ContextClimate laying out:
-What to expect at #COP29
-Why the politics of the global climate talks have led to this 'Finance COP'
- And arguing why rich nations now need to pay the climate debt they owe.

OPINION | Why gas is not the bridge fuel for Africa: The World Bank’s Mission 300 should focus on renewables as the extraction and burning of gas is expensive would damage the environment and people’s health.

✅ Sharing and caring
