Such a great chat with Jesse Thistle this morning ❤️ We asked what teachers could do to support kids like him. He said, “be trauma informed... I wasn’t fighting to be a trouble maker. I was fighting because I was dealing with trauma. That...and feed kids!”#icarryourheartinmyheart
As I’m listening to my wife (who is a pediatric PT,) do teletherapy with toddlers & their parents, I can’t help but notice how much she praises them. She’s so encouraging!
And I’m reminded of the fact that our kids will always work harder when they feel better about themselves.
Nice steps back while Kindness steps up. Nice happens when there's time, Kindness happens because we make time. Nice expects something in return, while Kindness is free from expectation.
Simply put: Nice people don’t change the world, but Kind people can. So we’ve got work to do!
A school Superintendent said something profound in his address cancelling school for the next 3 weeks. “In the end, it will be impossible to know if we overreacted or did too much, but it will be QUITE apparent if we under reacted or did too little.”
Hear those words my friends.
Teachers deal with so much in the classroom. For the most part, the public doesn’t have a clue. Most folks don’t know what it’s like to deal with the drama, hormones, and anxiety of 25 to 175 other little humans. It’s not easy. But I appreciate them. Their work matters.
Quantity doesn’t necessarily equate to rigor. (I do understand that math requires repetition.)
If you’re assigning something for HW, consider something short and challenging... as opposed to something long and mindless. Kids recognize busywork.
"We must remember we are not the sum of our intentions but of our actions.
Intention without initiative is just wishful thinking. So don't just intend to be kind, to follow your dreams, to care for your family. Actually DO the work." ❤️💪 @BrendonBurchard
A critical question for instructional design: Who owns the learning? If students don't own their learning, we risk teaching content apart from helping them learn how to learn. We don't want helpless learners who respond only to taking direction. #FutureDriven
