How To Reach A Project Whose DMs Are Locked.

Most people hit a locked DM and just give up right there.

From what I have seen, that is the wrong way to read it.

A locked DM does not mean the Project is unreachable. It usually just means they are tired of cold Pitches.

Here is how you actually get through anyway.

1. Check who runs the Community, not just the Main Account.

Most Projects have a Community Manager or a Mod whose DMs are wide open. That person talks to the Founder daily. Getting on their radar is not a consolation prize. It is a Shortcut most people overlook.

2. Reply publicly before you even think about DMing.

One sharp, specific Reply under their Post gets seen by the whole Team, not just one inbox. Founders start noticing Names before they ever bother checking who is trying to message them.

3. Show up in the Discord or Telegram before you ask for anything.

Answer a question someone else got wrong. Help a confused new Member. Those little things gets noticed faster than a cold message ever will, because it happens somewhere they are already paying attention.

4. Tag them with Context, not a Pitch.

Instead of "Can we hop on a call," try something closer to this.

"Noticed your last Update mentioned onboarding drop-off. I have seen a few Projects fix that with a simple welcome flow."

One shows you paid attention to something specific about their Project. The other could be copy-pasted to fifty different Accounts, and Founders can tell the difference instantly.

5. Go through someone who already has their Trust.

If a Contributor or Mod already knows your work, ask them to simply mention you. Not vouch blindly. Just make the introduction a little less cold.

6. Show up in more than one place.

A Name that appears on X, in their Discord, and under their Posts stops looking like a Stranger.
Founders remember Faces they have seen more than once, even if they never spoke first.

So really, a locked DM is not a Roadblock.

It just means you have to find the other door .
