At barely 18 years old, I was kicked out of my house for being gay. I was given no warning. Before I went to work that day, I broke my key in the door lock. When I got off of work, I called my mom to let me in & she wouldn’t. After many times of being hung up on, she finally put 2 garbage bags of my stuff on the porch. That’s how I left the house and ended up on my own. With garbage bags of rumpled clothes.
I was a brand new freshman in college at the time & I ended up having to drop out. I had to learn how to take care of myself at a young age and learn how to pay bills. I had to work all the time at the pizza place I worked at to survive & afford a place to live.
2 years later, I finally made my way back to college. I worked very hard and also worked several jobs at the time to be able to afford it. I ended up graduating in 4 years with honors.
Disaster would strike again 6 months after I graduated. I had a house fire that destroyed all of my stuff and left me homeless for 6 months. That put my plans for law school on hold indefinitely. I lost everything again.
2 years later, I ended up getting into law school. I would study for the LSAT while waiting tables and bartending. Always having my LSAT book at work and working through the logic problems during down time. I worked from 4-4 a.m. 6-7 days a week back then. But I pulled it off anyway.
I’ve had a rough ride in my life. I’ve had to work very hard to get where I’m at with many setbacks that were out of my control. I would lose everything again 6 years into my legal career when I became disabled. I came back from that too.
My point is that I am an incredibly strong person and have endured a lot of hardship. But I never stop trying to overcome it. I’ve never let it stop me from my ultimate goals.
If transphobes and TERFs think they are going to come at me, they should think again. I’m a very formidable opponent. I’ve had a lot of unthinkable things happen to me and I survived them all and came out stronger each time. When I write the book about my life one day, maybe I’ll finally make sense to the world.
I’m at the ther place and can’t get a background pic to load correctly. I hate starting over, but there aren’t Christi fascists over there so it seems nice. 🙂
@amandadeibert When my (now) husband were dating, we had an all night talk. We talked about EVERYTHING. The good, the bad, the ugly. Not a *single personal secret* wasn’t spilled.
Our 20th anniversary was a month ago. 🙂
Pedro Zamora died 30 years ago today. I’ve been thinking about this post for awhile, and I had hoped/assumed it would be a little more “celebratory.”
Despite losing him, I was assuming that we were entering a time of greater hope.
@SenRickScott You committed fraud, ripped off the health care system, and now you’re sucking up to Trump.
Your $300 million won’t save you from the history books, Skeletor.

@joe_jo4 This really baffles me—I thought *equality* was for everybody, not just some.
I’m speaking for myself here, but to me that’s exactly the hill that’s worth dying on.
There are a lot of women in America who "want to go back" and stay there.
They know who they are; and we do too.
Fuck all those bytches who betrayed their sisters.
I said what I fukn said.
We still have tens of thousands of votes to be counted across the Commonwealth.
@AP_Politics shouldn’t make a call in this race until every Pennsylvanian has their vote counted.
