Indian Tea Association applauds the progressive and development-oriented Assam Budget presented by Hon'ble Finance Minister Shri Jayanta Malla Barua under the dynamic leadership of Hon'ble Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. The enhanced incentives for Orthodox, Specialty & Matcha Tea, along with the new incentive for premium, export-oriented Assam CTC Tea are visionary measures to strengthen the competitiveness and global standing of Assam's tea industry.

However, ITA respectfully urges the Government of Assam to consider continuation of Agricultural Income Tax exemption for all tea estates to enable the industry to cope with the escalating costs and financial stress.

At a programme to observe the #InternationalTeaDay - organised by @teaboardofindia and chaired by Dy Chairperson Tea Bd, C Murugan - Chairman ITA @BangurHemant - laying emphasis on quality & compliance - proposed a science‑driven, transparent star‑rating framework for tea quality that combines: (1) measurable biochemical markers e.g., antioxidant levels and food‑safety compliance;
(2) sensory evaluation and brand/consumer perception;
(3) sustainability and community/welfare indicators; and
(4) traceability/source‑verification

developed by way of a collaborative effort involving regulators, scientific institutions, producer/exporter bodies and consumer stakeholders, to justify quality parameters & price differences for consumers knowledge thereby evolving a system to reward responsible producers and empower consumers.

Indian cuisine conversations often revolve around Punjabi, South Indian or Bengali food. Odiya cuisine deserves a much bigger place on that table.
What struck me most was its restraint. No overload of cream, butter or chillies. Just balance, mustard, fermentation, texture and freshness.
Dahi Bara Aloo Dum (popular street food), Drumstick-Brinjal Besara, Chhena Tarkari, Chakuli Pitha (like dosa) Aloo Patra Besara… all made at home.
