Mahanayak turns 100 today.

When I started in movie distribution, the old guards in their Moulali offices brought him up every single day. His thunder at the box office. His real-life personality. How a hall filled up on his name alone, no trailer, no campaign, just the name on a poster. How he looked after his colleagues, in every way that mattered, quietly, without anyone asking.

I heard the stories long before I saw the films properly. Bits on TV, a song here, a scene there.

Then almost a decade ago, remastered Nayak at Priya, big screen. That was the day the stories stopped being stories. Walked out finally understanding what those old men were talking about, and why they never stopped.

Top of my list since. Not a Bengali list. The list.

A whole year of screenings, conversations, rediscoveries. A lot of youngsters are going to meet the magician for the first time, the way I did at Priya. That makes me happier than I can say.

India still doesn’t know what it’s missing. This year, maybe it starts to.

More than lives up to expectations... Solid performances, superb music, stunning visuals, and captivating writing – this film scores on all fronts. #Cocktail2Review

Get ready to be surprised... Yes, #Cocktail2 is a love triangle, but it doesn't follow the conventional template... Nor does it take the tried-and-tested route... In fact, unpredictability is its biggest strength.

Director Homi Adajania, who also helmed #Cocktail [2012], ensures that the sequel bears no resemblance to the original or, for that matter, to any other love story... The film captures the spirit of modern-day romance while retaining the emotional core that made the first part so popular.

Luv Ranjan and Tarun Jain's writing is undoubtedly one of the film's biggest strengths.

The first half, set in #Sicily, #Italy, gives the film a spectacular visual appeal... The colours, the songs, the chemistry between the lead actors, and the unexpected twists make this portion rich – technically, visually, and emotionally.

The drama intensifies in the second half and, barring a slightly underwhelming pre-climax stretch, the film concludes on a thoroughly satisfying note.

Pritam's music is one of the strongest pillars of the film... A love story demands a memorable soundtrack, and #Cocktail2 delivers three smash-hit tracks, the best being #Mashooqa.

#ShahidKapoor is in top form... Emotionally effective and completely at ease in both dramatic and lighter moments... He simply knocks it out of the park in the penultimate sequence.

#KritiSanon delivers the finest performance of her career... She handles some of the most challenging moments with remarkable ease... In fact, she emerges as the film's standout performer.

#RashmikaMandanna does her best, but her character doesn't get enough scope to truly shine... Also, she needs to work on her Hindi diction to make a stronger impact.

⭐ Final word? #Cocktail2 has all the ingredients to emerge as a major boxoffice success.

#PEDDI REVIEW - SPORTS MEETS MASS ENTERTAINMENT… Peddi SCORES BIG WITH EMOTION, DRAMA & ACTION!

Rating - ⭐️⭐️⭐️½

Peddi is a unique sports drama that successfully blends a massy, rooted and desi story with the spirit of sports. The film follows the journey of a labourer who masters multiple sports disciplines to bring recognition to his village and its people, ultimately fighting for their identity and existence through his achievements.

The first half is engaging and packed with several powerful moments, though it does feel stretched in parts. The romantic track involving #JanhviKapoor fails to leave an impact and isn’t written convincingly. Her character lacks substance, while the love story with Ram Charan slows down the film’s momentum.

However, the film delivers numerous standout moments. #RamCharan’s entry sequence is superbly designed, while the cricket portions showcasing his unconventional playing style are thoroughly entertaining. The pre-interval and interval blocks are emotionally charged and executed effectively. Apart from Ram Charan, #JagapathiBabu also delivers a remarkable performance.

The second half is stronger and considerably faster-paced. Here, Ram Charan’s character evolves into a wrestler fighting for the dignity and integrity of his people. The narrative is filled with several elevation moments that are bound to draw whistles and applause from the audience. The climax is exceptionally well-executed and serves as the film’s biggest strength.

As the legendary crossover athlete, #RamCharan delivers a phenomenal performance. This ranks among the finest performances of his career and is likely to earn widespread critical acclaim. He carries the film on his shoulders with a commanding screen presence and immense conviction.

Director #BuchiBabuSana deserves appreciation for attempting what can be called Telugu cinema’s first full-fledged commercial masala sports drama. His vision largely succeeds, balancing emotions, action and mass entertainment effectively.

The film’s biggest drawback is its excessive runtime. A tighter edit could have enhanced the overall impact significantly.

Overall: #Peddi is a solid entertainer that offers a compelling mix of emotions, drama, action and sports. Despite some pacing issues, the film delivers several memorable moments and culminates in a highly satisfying climax. Ram Charan fans, in particular, will leave the theatres delighted.

At box office front, peddi is likely to emerge as a CLEAN HIT

#Peddi: POWERFUL.

A sports drama with its share of highs and lows... Its biggest strength is #RamCharan's memorable performance + several terrific moments... Screenplay could've been tighter and the runtime shorter. #PeddiReview

After making an impressive directorial debut with the well-crafted and hugely successful #Uppena, director #BuchiBabuSana returns with an unconventional, content-driven film in his second outing, #Peddi.

The film doesn't follow the tried-and-tested masala template, but at the same time, it attempts to cram a little too much into its 3-hour-plus runtime.

A sports drama needs awe-inspiring moments, and #Peddi certainly delivers on that front... The cricket matches in the first half, the kushti training sessions and competitions, and of course, the penultimate race sequence are all exceptionally executed.

That said, there are loose ends as well... The romantic track is a major letdown, while several sequences feel stretched and some seem unnecessary... A shorter runtime was the need of the hour.

Even the item song in the second half evokes strong #Pushpa vibes, which wasn't really required.

#Peddi rests largely on #RamCharan's shoulders, and the actor delivers a sparkling, stunning, award-worthy performance... It's a physically demanding role that also demands a high emotional quotient – not an easy combination to pull off – but #RamCharan is simply smashing.

#JanhviKapoor's character deserved stronger writing and a more impactful presentation... Dr #ShivaRajkumar is fantastic, #JagapathiBabu is rock-solid, while #Divyenndu delivers a competent performance.

#BomanIrani, #RaviKishan, and #UpendraLimaye lend solid support.

#ARRahman's music works well, with #Chikiri standing out... The background score is electrifying, while #RRathnavelu's cinematography is top-notch... The #Hindi dubbing is very good.

⭐ Final word? The buzz for #Peddi in the #Hindi markets is currently on the lower side, and its boxoffice prospects will depend heavily on positive word of mouth... The #Telugu version, meanwhile, is expected to dominate the business.
