We're constantly lost in external stimuli: phones, computers, other people. They keep us distracted from our thoughts, alienating us from ourselves.
Writing forces you to hear your thoughts. It is a confrontation with yourself. This is its greatest value, and its greatest pain.
@imashleymi I'm chosing to buy fewer things, but more local this year. That's how I'm thinking of it! Also, remember that local doesn't necessarily mean more expensive- big box stores want us to think that! If you live in an area with local vendors, I say at least check them out first!
If you regularly try to articulate your beliefs into persuasive written arguments, you will inevitably experience an inability to do so that causes you to adjust your confidence in those beliefs when you otherwise wouldn't have. This is one of the best reasons to write imo.

@liz_hallett Do you think the police will do anything about those 2 young women assaulted downtown last week? I haven't heard what's happening with that. Do you know anything?
@liz_hallett Why not leave it at the first sentence?
Although I'm sure you're not, the way you present it sounds like you are justifying something.
Was the last distinction necessary? 🤔
