I remember him telling me when we met at the @UN in NY about how after becoming PM he returned Diwali gifts to their senders. I asked why, He said they were too expensive, some concealed very generous gifts within, and as a diabetic he didn't eat sweets anyway. I gently admonished him, saying exchanging gifts at Diwali, especially sweets, was a tradition and returning them would seem discourteous, if not churlish. He listened, but said nothing.

When he came back to the @UN the following year he smiled at me and said, "Shashi I took your advice." I wondered what it was I had been presumptuous enough to advise my Prime Minister on. "What you said about Diwali tradition," he reminded me. "I do return the expensive gifts, but i no longer send the sweets back." His smile became broader. "I distribute them to my staff instead!"

@MamataOfficial Please check the recent PLFS Report @MamataOfficial . Self employment earning of women is the least in West Bengal. Earning - gender- gap in West Bengal is also very high in self employed workers. Number of units are not the issue in WB. The value generated by the units are low.

You are a fighter – on and off the mat. Through you, we are learning what it means to never lose the fight in us, even as a loss weighs heavily. You embody the true spirit of a warrior.

Not all victories look alike. Some end up as a glittering souvenir in a cabinet but the ones that matter more find their way into the stories we tell our children.
