Algae problems in the “newly renovated” Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool are worsening rapidly.
Today, images of Interior Department workers in waders frantically dumping huge bottles of hydrogen peroxide into the monument’s now sickly green waters began circulating.
“The [peroxide] treatment is the latest attempt by the Interior Department to control an algae bloom that has turned the pool bright green, despite President Donald Trump’s costly renovation to make it ‘American flag blue’ in time for the nation’s 250th anniversary,” WIRED explained.
Trump initially claimed his efforts to “rehab” the Reflecting Pool would cost a modest $1.8 million. Unsurprisingly, a no-bid contract handed to a crony spiked the cost to nearly $15 million.
“The work was done under a no-bid contract by a company that has never worked for the federal government,” WIRED added, citing a New York Times report.
“’I have a guy who’s unbelievable at doing swimming pools. He called me up. He said: Sir, we can do something on it,’” Trump said in April, per The Guardian. Right before the site re-opened, Trump loyalist and Interior Department spokesperson Katie Martin praised his plans.
“President Donald J Trump is an expert builder who has fixed the Reflecting Pool for good,” Martin said, per The Guardian. Trump also bragged about the project’s supposed longevity in a recent TruthSocial post.
“This was not a paint job This was highly sophisticated material, industrial strength, that could last for 100 years, applied by very talented people,” he boasted.
Unlike Trump’s golf courses, the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool belongs to the American people, not him. No-bid contracts resulting in clearly subpar work are red flags screaming "public corruption" — and the state of the monument is a visual reminder of it.
We can’t let these people continue destroying our institutions, public monuments, and 250 years of American democracy. Remember this in November, and vote like our country depends on it.
It does.

During his time as a senator, Trump DHS chief Markwayne Mullin tried to downplay FDA concerns about the severe health risks linked to kratom.
He never mentioned his financial investment in a kratom company that stood to benefit from the changes he recommended — until it was included in financial records that emerged after his Cabinet nomination. https://t.co/jksljxgmgo
It's only Tuesday and Trump has fucked up a pool for $14 Million, lost a war agreeing to pay Iran $300 Billion, and ballooned his already expensive ballroom budget by another $200 Million.
Where are the Republicans screaming about "waste, fraud and abuse"?
News Center Maine just caught up with Sen. Susan Collins and asked about her pivotal vote to confirm Justice Brett Kavanaugh, a vote which ultimately led to the Supreme Court's disastrous Dobbs decision overturning Roe vs. Wade.
"I do not regret that vote. I do disagree with Justice Kavanaugh’s vote," Collins replied.
This April, Johns Hopkins released harrowing findings on the maternal mortality impact of Dobbs — "researchers found a possible 9.2% increase in pregnancy-associated deaths in states with abortion bans," according to a press release from the institution.
Study authors like Suzanne Bell warned that the true number of deaths related to Dobbs might be far higher.
"Increases in these measures of mortality can be hard to detect, but these findings suggest many preventable deaths have occurred in states that banned abortion," Bell explained.
During Kavanaugh's 2018 confirmation hearings, he sold lawmakers a far different:
"I understand the importance of the precedent set forth in Roe v. Wade. So Roe v. Wade held, of course, and it reaffirmed in Planned Parenthood v. Casey, that a woman has a constitutional right to obtain an abortion before viability, subject to reasonable regulation by the state up to the point where that regulation constitutes an undue burden on the woman’s right to obtain an abortion."
Despite Kavanaugh's about-face and the many deaths that followed Dobbs, Collins still doesn't regret her vote.
"Obviously, I'm disappointed in that decision, which turned abortion issues back to the states. It has not had an impact on the state of Maine in that name actually expanded its law," she said.
The women of Maine and all other states deserve better. Regret does nothing to lower preventable maternal mortality — vote accordingly.
Sen. @timkaine: Was the 2024 presidential election rigged?
Trump Nominee: President Trump won the 2024 presidential election.
Kaine: He was asked twice if the 2020 election was rigged and he wouldn't answer the question. You answered so easily when I asked you the question about 2024. The fact that you were unable to give the simple answer about 2020 raises serious questions.
“This is why I knew the version of events we witnessed in Butler, PA, were a stunt - and not the natural reactions of the man whose family I worked closely with in reality TV.
Even Tucker Carlson revealed recently that Dan Bongino told him Trump personally shut down the FBI investigation into his ‘assassination attempt’ when he came back into office.
Which makes total sense seeing how effective the ‘Fight, Fight, Fight’ branding operation had become for him - and how there is no way the events of that day would hold up to further scrutiny. Including the actions of the Secret Service, who seemingly went against all previous training and protocol to allow POTUS the opportunity for a photo op during an attempt on his life.
To put it simply, it doesn’t pass the smell test - and, as I have said many times before, Donald Trump should never be given the benefit of the doubt. Most especially when it comes to choreographed optics that serve the fraudulent image he has spent a lifetime crafting.” https://t.co/6BEIyohg06
George Conway dropped another new ad going hard after Trump!
I love the humor and the promise to hold Trump accountable!

#BREAKING: Psaki: “…today has also been a very good day for Donald Trump’s billionaire buddies. Tonight we got the news that the Trump DOJ has approved Paramounts $111 billion deal to acquire Warner Brothers Discovery. That means two major movie studios, two major streaming services, CNN and CBS News will now all be under one roof, and all of it will be controlled by David Ellison, the son of course of MAGA billionaire Larry Ellison. Now, did paying $16 million to settle a completely BOGUS lawsuit over Kamala Harris’ interview, installing Bari Weiss at CBS News, gutting 60 Minutes and firing Stephen Colbert help grease the wheels a little bit? Who knows? I think you know. But what we do know for sure, is that it was a big day for the the Ellison boys.” 😂😳
After James Talarico raised a record $27M via ActBlue, his opponent Ken Paxton tried to sue the platform out of existence. A federal judge stepped in to protect Talarico’s momentum and small-dollar donors everywhere. Read how: 👇 https://t.co/TELyr4FaLt
Heads up: The U.S. Postal Service has proposed a new rule that would allow it to refuse to deliver mail ballots in states that don't turn over voter rolls to the federal government.
Democrats and voting-rights groups say the proposed rule is clear evidence that the Trump admin is trying to unconstitutionally intrude on state-run elections.
