Scientists made 50-year-old skin cells behave like they’re 20 again.

Researchers at the Babraham Institute in Cambridge have developed a groundbreaking method to reverse the biological aging of human skin cells by approximately 30 years, all while keeping them as fully functional adult skin cells.

The team used a carefully controlled, short-term version of the Nobel Prize-winning Yamanaka reprogramming technique. By exposing adult skin fibroblasts to a specific set of reprogramming factors (the Yamanaka factors) for just 13 days—and then stopping the process early—they successfully “reset” many molecular markers of aging without pushing the cells all the way back to a stem cell state.

After this brief treatment, the rejuvenated cells displayed a dramatically younger profile: their epigenetic clock (a measure of chemical tags on DNA that tracks biological age) and their gene expression patterns (the transcriptome) closely resembled those of cells from much younger individuals.

Even more impressively, the cells behaved younger too. The treated fibroblasts produced significantly higher levels of collagen—the protein essential for skin firmness, elasticity, and wound healing—and they migrated faster to close an artificial “wound” in laboratory dishes compared to untreated older cells.

The researchers also observed reversal of age-related changes in genes associated with diseases such as Alzheimer’s and cataracts, suggesting the technique could have broader therapeutic implications.

While this work is still in its early stages and the precise mechanisms remain under investigation, the findings open exciting possibilities: one day, scientists may be able to selectively rejuvenate aging cells in the body to enhance tissue repair, improve healing, and potentially slow or mitigate some effects of age-related diseases—without the risks associated with fully reprogramming cells into stem cells.

Yes, I proudly put George Washington on my America 250 Cousin T’s pancake box. He owned slaves, but that is not his entire legacy. He was also our first president and helped build the nation that gave people like me the freedom to rise.

I went from foster care to building Cousin T’s, a successful Black-owned American company. I am living the American Dream.

So while Al Sharpton is calling for a boycott, I am calling for Black Americans to stop letting professional outrage merchants convince us that patriotism belongs only to white people.

America is my country too.

I will celebrate her loudly, proudly, and without permission.

The entire portrait is rendered using a single, continuous spiralling line that begins at the tip of Christ's nose and expands outward to the edges of the cloth.

Mellan achieved the illusion of depth, shadow, and facial features without any cross-hatching or traditional shading. Instead, he precisely varied the thickness and pressure of the burin (his engraving tool) as he rotated the copper plate, creating "swelling" lines that darken the image where needed.

The spiralling line is estimated to be approximately 150m (about 500ft) long if it were stretched out.

Researchers at Beijing Normal University and Peking University gave 25 volunteers virtual wings in VR — completely replacing their arms — and had them complete flying exercises over four 30-minute sessions. fMRI scans taken before and after showed that the occipitotemporal cortex, the brain region that processes body parts, had rewired itself to respond more strongly to the VR wings. The neural patterns for wings became more similar to those used for human arms, particularly in the right hemisphere. The brain also showed stronger connections between this region and the areas responsible for planning and coordinating movement. The researchers are careful to note the wings hadn't fully become part of the brain's body representation — but the shift was measurable and significant. The findings could inform physical therapy for amputees and shed light on how extended VR use might reshape how the brain defines the human body.
