Getafe's Cucurella told Militao "Shut up, you f*cking monkey" during their duel in the game. It's remain to be seen if Real Madrid will report this. [@carrusel]
I've lived in Argentina for over 18 years. I'm a migrant here. And I want to say it clearly: Samuel L. Jackson's accusation is false.
I'm not speaking from theory. I'm speaking from the experience of having built a life here, of having been welcomed, integrated, of having seen firsthand what it means to be a country made of migrants.
Let's go over some history, since he brought it up:
🇦🇷 Argentina abolished slavery in 1813 with the Free Womb Law, and definitively in the 1853 Constitution — earlier than much of the continent. This is a country built by receiving waves of immigrants from Italy, Spain, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and today from all over Latin America. Multiculturalism isn't a talking point here, it's the foundation of national identity.
🇺🇸 The United States didn't abolish slavery until 1865, and upheld legal racial segregation (Jim Crow laws) until 1964-65. Less than 65 years ago, that same country had separate bathrooms, schools, and bus seats by skin color.
🇬🇧 England built much of its economic power on the transatlantic slave trade, and its colonial empire left a record of institutional racism across four continents that's still being reckoned with today.
Before pointing fingers, it might be worth looking at your own history. Argentina has its own unresolved issues, like any country — but calling it "the most racist country in the world" isn't criticism, it's misinformation.
You should be ashamed @SamuelLJackson

🚨🇫🇰 PICTURED: Argentina’s players hold up a sign saying “Las Malvinas” are Argentine
This is factually inaccurate, as the Malvinas, officially named the Falkland Islands, are British
