This leaked draft executive order is completely illegal and unconstitutional. If Trump and Congressional Republicans do not immediately distance themselves from this outline for an executive power grab over our elections, it is a five-alarm constitutional crisis.

The president cannot seize control of federal elections, nullify acts of Congress, and suspend constitutional protections by declaring a “national emergency.”

This draft attempts to dictate how ballots are printed, how voters register, how votes are cast and counted, and how results are certified. That is legislative power that belongs to Congress and the states, not the executive branch.
