'Six months to live' should not be a death sentence.
We are outside Parliament now with people who have outlived their prognoses.
The assisted suicide bill being debated in the House of Lords would needlessly cut hundreds or thousands of people's lives short every year.
This time last year, Sadie's sister, Joy was terminally ill – skeletal and extremely weak. She was not expected to live for more than a month.
But a year later, she survived and is living a normal life.
Sadie “imagined how tragic it would be” if assisted suicide was legal and her sister had been pressured into ending her life due to being a ‘burden’.
Cecil Harper, 64, was given two years to live in 2019 when he was diagnosed with two types of cancer.
And again in 2023, the doctor said he had "one year to live".
Today, he and his daughter Storm Cecile stood with us against the assisted suicide bill being debated in the House of Lords.
“When you’re told that you only have, say, a year to live; it does get to your head.
"But you have to try and put that to the back of your mind because the doctors are not God.”
🧵A six-month prognosis is not the end.
Hear from those who have lived through it.👇
Janine Boutelje is living cancer-free after being given three terminal prognoses.
She's repeatedly surprised oncologists by how she'd and recovered from rare, aggressive forms of cancer and 400 seconds of total radiation treatment received.
In 2010 she was diagnosed with sinosal melanoma, and just three months later, lung and liver cancer.
She recovered against all odds, after six rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
In 2019, she was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer. Again, she recovered miraculously.
"The oncologist could not believe I'd survived the first two cancers."
Feeling the pinch in the pocket this pay day. Pretty sure I can tell where the majority of the #NI hike is going…we’re all paying for this disgraceful #bill.
#Rwanda has been mired in human rights abuses and in 2020 was found to be active in “arbitrary detention, ill-treatment, and torture in official and UNOFFICIAL detention facilities.”
Yet Priti Patel and Tory Govt will still callously ship off vulnerable refugees there. Shameful!
