I was honored to join NewsNation to discuss one of the most important issues facing our industry and our communities: homeownership affordability.
Housing affordability is complex, but there are solutions.
From creative financing options to policy conversations and local market strategies, it’s critical we keep the focus on expanding access to homeownership, not limiting it.
Grateful for the opportunity to share insights and contribute to a national conversation with NewsNations Alex Caprariello that truly matters.
Proud to advocate for buyers, sellers, and the future of our industry.
With affordability challenges impacting so many families, it was meaningful to share real-world insights and discuss options that can help make homeownership more attainable.
These conversations matter.
And one immediate option HUD Secretary Turner can do to make housing more affordable today is to significantly reduce or pause MIP on FHA loans.
With 6x, of congresses 2x mandate, in MIP Reserves sitting in the MIPFund, that is over $200 Billion, this immediate action, that doesn’t take an act of Congress or cost tax payers or the government any money and doesn’t deplete the fund, it would just pause continuing to add to it.
With discussion, action needs to happen to make housing more affordable now. I urge Secretary Turner to act now.

@Sarahfinn54@fl28_usa@pulte This part does take an act of Congress to remove FHA MIP for the life of the loan. In 2013 Congress made the change and would have to remove that. HUD Secretary Turner does have the ability to pause or significantly reduce upfront or monthly MIP on new FHA loans.
I agree 100%! Though this part does take an act of Congress to reverse this from 2013 change to MIP for the life of the loan. This too would give existing FHA homeowners Immediate monthly money in their pockets. For new homebuyers Sec Turner has the control to make changes to new FHA loans regarding MIP.
FHA MIP Fund is sitting at over $200 BILLION, Congress mandate minimum capital reserve level is 2%, it is now at almost 13%. Now is the time to pause or significantly reduce MIP. An immediate area HUD Sec Scott Turner can alleviate monthly payment burdens on new FHA Borrowers and make housing more affordable
HUD Secretary Turner needs to do a temporary PAUSE to FHA MIP. He alone can make this happen. The FHA MIP Fund is sitting at over $200 BILLION, Congress mandates minimum capital reserve level at 2%, it is now at almost 13%. Now is the time to pause upfront MIP and monthly MIP or significantly reduce MIP. An immediate area HUD Sec Turner can do tomorrow to alleviate monthly payment burdens on new FHA Borrowers and make housing more affordable now. Not months from now. It costs the government nothing, doesn’t deplete the fund, it just pauses continuing to add to the fund.
@NHL that call on Ryan McDonagh was a terrible call. He is the last player to ever do that intentionally. To eject him is totally an awful call. The puck was there and shoulders involved. Basically give the game to the Avs. Seriously what the heck! 😤 @PredsNHL
