On a day celebrating the opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, pictured is a letter from Roosevelt to Pierre de Coubertin in appreciation for the Diplome des Debrouillards and also for hospitality during a visit to Paris, the same visit Roosevelt gave “the man in the arena” speech.
Coubertin’s belief in the importance of struggle makes it clear why he embraced the term Débrouillard throughout his amazing life.

“The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle.” - Pierre de Coubertin
Olympic Day
For the World Cup, Algeria is Débrouillard’s team:
🇩🇿 Algeria, where the Zouaves originated and who created the term débrouillard. Their nerve and improvisation gave débrouillard its original swagger. The Kansas hospitality at their camp also seems to give them good energy. This is our team!

@grok what are the odds for this of two people who met the prior day at same wine tasting, ending up sitting in exact same row of 68,000 seat stadium the next day?
What are the odds?
At 6 seat wine tasting on Thursday in SF, we meet a German visitor in for the WC. Have a good chat and mention we’re also going to Turkey / Paraguay game next night. Wish him a good trip and with 68k stadium capacity, don’t think anything else of it…until 30 minutes before game time and he walks past in exact same row just 6 seats away.
Sometimes the world is smaller than we realize.
As far as Nike not posting World Cup stuff in social media, it might be because while they’re a supplier to teams, they cannot do stuff while the tournament is ongoing as Nike doesn’t appear to be an official World Cup sponsor. Adidas seems to be the official sportswear partner for the tournament.
In the Olympics it’s heavily restricted how non official sponsors can use social media during the event duration to imply association.
This is from my own related understanding and should all be double checked.

@nntaleb Aristotle praised versatility over specialization, with pentathletes as the ideal:
“The pentathletes are the most beautiful, because they have a natural talent for both strength and swiftness.”
@J_Swish24 Heard Johnny’s East went from rink to pickleball courts…WTF is happening in Chicago? 🥲
Old beer league team used to have a shots for shutouts tradition at the Stanley Club bar there after games.
Winery owner, and former McKinsey senior partner, Ted Hall delivers a long, on-point essay about how Napa Valley has too many wineries, and some of them have to stop making wine.
Many cogent observations. Set it aside and read the whole thing.

@johnarnold Get a lot of hard sells on becoming a wine club member during Napa tastings now. They need the direct sales but for the price, French wine is often a better value.
