NMRS India mourns the passing of Prof. Anil Kumar, Emeritus Scientist, IISc Bangalore. His contributions to Magnetic Resonance are immense and uncountable. An excellent researcher, teacher, and human being. The MR community has lost a shining gem from India.
On Oct 29, join us in Rosemont, IL, for engaging presentations, workshops & networking opportunities at the 1st* #Bruker NMR User Meeting in North America!
Check the agenda here: https://t.co/iQbOvNzrmM
*Another coming in Newark, NJ, on Oct 31.

Took about one hour, but these aging fans (YSTech-FD121225MB) in the Bruker NEO #NMR console have been replaced by YW12025012BM. Total cost $100 from @digikey and a new fan tray from vendor $800.

On Aug 27 we officially held an internal inauguration for our Helium Recovery Center in Billerica, MA, marking a significant milestone in our journey towards sustainable technology.
We celebrated the inauguration with some liquid nitrogen ice cream!

Visualizing Science! I'm holding a series of free, online workshops, thanks to Johns Hopkins University. All are welcome! I plan to have fun with Danielle VanBrabant, Damond Kyllo, and Amey Zhang to introduce visualization topics and challenges. No art experience is necessary.
We're thrilled to introduce the Ascend Evo 600, the newest addition to our innovative line of #NMR magnets. With its cutting-edge Evo technology now available in mid-field, the Ascend Evo 600 is a game-changer for NMR research!

@GeoffAkien @donahuegroup @bruker@SouthernMiss It shakes and jitters when lubrication is gone/degraded. Frequency of lubrication application depends on usage, high traffic spectrometers may need maintenance sooner. Our bio samples are fairly low traffic and we do this yearly.
@donahuegroup @bruker@SouthernMiss Yay to automation and more NMR accesibility & usage! Remember to lubricate the c-channel using the silicone grease provided on a yearly basis.
@vikasnavaratna Data for University of Michigan is wrong, don’t know where the 16 weeks came from. Dads only get 6 weeks (“parental leave”) and birthing parent gets 6+6=12 weeks. ref: https://t.co/n0zk3cJfZJ
Here's the quick summary of this post. Read the original if you'd like to learn some physics.
- Two teams worked together to synthesize a material very similar to LK99
- They measured its superconducting properties using an extremely sensitive commercial device called an MPMS3 SQUID
- They found evidence of a weak Meissner Effect, i.e. the signature of superconductivity in the sample.
This is not conclusive - the sample could just have weird magnetic properties. Replication attempts for the original LK99 concluded that it was a weak diamagnet in low strength magnetic fields, and became ferromagnetic at higher magnetic fields. The plots from this paper could be congruent with that interpretation.
Likely people will keep exploring lead apatite crystals and their weird magnetic properties. I would caution heavily against doing anything like betting money on this, etc, etc.
