#Coaches what about making today the day you #coach so brilliantly that you can lay in bed tonight, smile and know with total confidence "Today I changed a life - I inspired one #athlete to believe in themselves and their potential".
@stoswaldsuk@goodgrieftrust I met this incredible lady at my first visit to the bereavement cafe recently, as I left she got hold of my hand and said it had been lovely to chat π x
Light up a Life is a special way to honour the life of someone you love and miss, and everyone is welcome to be part of it. π
Here is how you can get involved π§΅π

Of all the sporting parents messages I deliver, this one is perhaps THE most important. I've told this story in various ways for a quarter of a century and it always hits home:
Dear Soccer mom, Football Dad, Swimming Parent, Tennis dad, etc.
The chances are your child will never be an elite athlete.
They will never represent their country at the Olympics.
They will not be a professional basketballer or footballer or cricketer or rugby player.
But, every day - for the rest of your life - they will be your child.
And you know and I know what it is you truly want for your child.
You want them to be healthy.
You want them to be happy.
You want them to find something in their life that they can be passionate about.
You want them to love and to be loved.
You want them to find peace in their heart.
You want them to realise their potential as human beings.
So why not focus on loving them unconditionally, accepting them for who they are as people and inspiring them to believe in themselves so that every night, they lay in bed - knowing with total certainty - that you're there for them - always.
If they know that - and they've got the will, the talent, the motivation and the determination to be successful athletes - they will make it.
Regards,
WG
This is what I call the Last Coaching Session exercise.....
Imagine at your next coaching session, that, for one of your athletes - it is THEIR last session. They've decided to retire or go to University or move to another city for work - but once they walk out the door or off the park tomorrow, they're not coming back - ever.
What is it you'd like them to remember about you, your team, the experience of your sport - what is it you'd like them to think about in the years ahead when they look back at their time in your coaching program?
How much they hated training?
How boring and tedious the sessions were?
How little you really knew them as a person?
OR...
How the environment you created with them was engaging, interesting and stimulating?
How much you cared about them?
How much they learnt from you?
How much they love the sport and that they'll always stay connected to it in some way because of how you created such an enjoyable sports experience for them?
How do you want to be remembered by the athletes you coach?
Now COACH LIKE THAT EVERY DAY!
An old friend used to tell me, "Goldy, you're the master of the obvious".
We ALL know why teenagers are leaving sport at an unprecented rate - yet for the most part we don't do anything about it.

@olivem1nt Totally understand. Some days you are dealing with overwhelming sadness, yet others are more bearable and you remember them more with smiles. I made myself a memory jar and make little notes when I think of her and things we did together. Sending you my love x
