About 20 years ago, Casemiro also told a lie to keep his football dreams alive. That is what is probably keeping Brazils 2026 World Cup dream alive as we speak. What a world!
Casemiro walked into his São Paulo FC trial at 11 years old as a striker. There were about 300 kids competing for 50 spots. When the coach asked who played up front, roughly 100 hands went up. Casemiro put his down.
When the coach asked who played defensive midfielder, seven or eight hands went up. Casemiro then put his hand straight up. Funny enough, he had never played the position in his life.
The coach pulled him aside afterwards and said "you're not a defensive midfielder, you came here as a forward."
Casemiro kept insisting that he was. They selected him anyway.
That one calculated lie, made in about three seconds, produced five Champions League titles, three La Liga trophies, and one of the greatest defensive midfielders of his generation.
Brazil reaped the benefits now with a goal from Casemiro to get them back into the game today. Again, what a world!
