Thanks to 100 folks joining the "Deconstructing Indonesia" first session! 🥳
Around 20 people offsite at Columbia University and the rest via Zoom.
If you missed yesterday's session, here is the recording https://t.co/ep4CgyV8Rt
The Enlightenment vision was as much about reason as it was about emancipating the individual. But who is this individual? Is it just stand-in for a certain kind of European? We’ll unpack these debates through two feminist thinkers: Mary Wollstonecraft & Gayatri Spivak.
Reminder that our class is tommorow!
Our in-person guests, don't forget to DM us for campus access. Our online friends, apologies that our WhatsApp group is currently full but in the meantime you can still join!

What is Enlightenment? Is it as simple as spreading knowledge for the betterment of all? But who gets to decide what counts as knowledge? What does forgetting this mean for those who are only “described” but themselves never get to “describe”?
Join us as we discuss l’Encyclopedie, the Cartesian method, and Edward Said’s landmark text: Orientalism.
We’ve adjusted the timing so people in Indonesia don’t have to wake up at such an unholy hour. See you Friday! Also some sneak peeks 👀

@deconstructindo Join Deconstructing Indonesia and The Coretanist for a discussion on modern refrigeration, compulsory kneeling, and why a student-led group that organizes classes on Indonesian history called “Deconstructing Indonesia” will be spending the next several months focusing on Europe
While we're at it, we’re also happy to announce that we’ll be collaborating with @coretanist going forward! 🎉 They do really cool stuff, including the above post, which you can also treat as a semi-sneak peek for tonight! 👀
Module 3 is here! Join us for a discussion on modern refrigeration, compulsory kneeling, and why on Earth a project called Deconstructing Indonesia will be spending the next several months on Europe.
Due to some scheduling conflicts, we'll be holding our first session on Thursday rather than Friday. Again access to Teachers' College is pretty straightforward, just show your government ID and you're in! See you soon!
