The big lie about The Last Jedi, from fans and haters alike, is that Rian Johnson wanted to subvert expectations. Every decision he made was a natural continuation of each character's arc, based on their flaws.

South Carolina has one of the starker divides of any state out there.

Western/Upstate SC has around ~2 million people and voted for Trump by 34 points.

The rest has ~3 million people and voted for him by 7.4% and - 0.5% in 2020.

They got so freaked out by online comments that they pivoted the next entry to be safer and respond/retcon most major complaints.
