the whole situation makes you wonder—are these companies even trying to be independent, or are they just keeping up appearances while staying locked into big tech? if a service stops working without google, is it really a service or just an extension of google itself?
been degoogling my life for the last 6 months, self-hosting, switching to alternatives, and making real progress. but during travelling, its tough. using apps like ola/uber in an unfamiliar place is almost a necessity unless you wanna get charged the "not-a-local" tax... a thread
