It is a fun movie but I think it’s also deeper than people give it credit for. There are themes of loneliness, rejection from society, not knowing where you belong, and believing in yourself when no one else will.

He has multiple grounds for an appeal. He had an all white jury in a racially charged case. The district attorney removed potential Black jurors during jury selection without strong, race neutral reasoning, which is called a "Batson Violation". The judge had errors in his instructions to the jury on what self defense is.
Also, character obscurity doesn't even matter. DC pushes Peacemaker, Grifter, and Witchfire. Even non comic based characters like Dreamer. They can easily do the same with Black characters.
