"Like a Prayer" was written by Madonna and Patrick Leonard. The video, directed by Mary Lambert, generated one of the biggest controversies of her career. Pepsi had paid $5 million to use the song in a commercial and sponsor the tour, but canceled everything after the scandal (the commercial only happened once). Madonna refused to change any scene, took the money and the Vatican condemned the video.
