@Lerry_sax@MrOlibaba Congratulations Leader. Go and hit FirstBank Management Associate Programme -FMAP or Management Development Program(MDP) - Sterling
@MrOlibaba The policy still exists in my organization, but mostly tellers. I feel the organization culture too determines, am not even sure you want to do such here if you are in front desk office where service is paramount. Except on weekends or customer service week.
@MrOlibaba After several applications, I got an invite for interview sometimes June, I was nervous, anxious because I was desperate to get next grade & to leave my present place unfortunately I didn’t get the job.
One lesson I’ve taken with me is overprepare, but stay calm and confident.
I've worked in a few organizations, but I still rate Sterling Bank as one of the most intentional places I've ever worked.
Everything they do seems well thought out.
When they decided to move away from T24, they didn't just buy another core banking system. They built SeaBaaS, an indigenous core banking application.
That was a bold move, and it showed they were willing to invest in building, not just buying.
The work culture was another thing I appreciated.
It's not by chance that they've consistently been recognised as one of the best places to work for years.
Even their branches reflect how they think.
You can walk into a Sterling branch, settle into Café One, connect to the internet, grab a coffee, and get work done without anyone disturbing you. It feels like more than a bank.
One thing that also stood out to me was how they treated outsourced staff.
If you performed well, there was a real chance of becoming a full-time employee. It gave people something to work towards.
This is applicable to AltBank.
Looking back, my time at Sterling Bank remains one of the best experiences of my career. Some workplaces give you a job.
Others leave you with standards you'll measure every other workplace against.
If there's any bank that will survive years with innovation and trend, that bank is Sterling.
I used to have a colleague who studied Petrochemical Engineering. We started at UBA together.
From operations in UBA, he moved to Union Bank as RM, then to First Bank as an RM.
He didn't spend up to a year at First Bank before he got an offer from NLNG.
The banking experience didn't stop him from getting into oil and gas.
If anything, it gave him commercial experience that made him more valuable.
A lot of people think accepting a job outside their field means they have given up on their dream. I don't see it that way.
A degree is one part of your story.
Your career is built on the skills you acquire, the problems you solve, and the results you deliver.
You can use all of that to get your dream job.
@MrOlibaba@MrOlibaba Seems like you’re mirroring the approach I had in mind. I’m going to lock in and learn from the process. You’re doing great by being generous enough to share your experiences. 🙏🏾
@MrOlibaba I bless the day i stumble across your account
Your journey, ambition, and willingness to share knowledge are truly inspiring. Coming from retail operations, you’ve helped me see sales differently and believe I’m in the right sector. Thank you.
God bless you boss.
