Due to my father’s age & circumstances, he receives Optage Meals, (like Meals on Wheels) when requested. A few meals a week allow me to not have to prepare scratch & $pecific meals that align with his dietary requirements. I also get a break as a caregiver - time and money. This program is part of Dad’s palliative care plan.

Today he received a letter stating that effective immediately those meals will cease as a direct result of the Trump Administration’s plans to not re-authorize funding for the Title III programs that fall under the Older Americans Act ("OAA")

2.4 million people across the country will no longer receive meals/dietary assistance from programs such as Meals on Wheels, and similar. The letter refers those impacted to their local food shelf.

Title III of the OAA also provides low cost or free transportation, caregiver support, personal care & chores via PCA, elder abuse prevention services, community engagement and long-term care ombudsman services. About 11M people avail themselves of Title III services per year. OAA programs have been a lifeline for seniors. While Dad will survive, many may not.

We both teared up thinking of how the most vulnerable people in our country are going to go hungry thanks to Trump. In addition, the people who have jobs because of this Act will lose them.
