I am absolutely speechless that our incoming PM has chosen to give his first big interview to a man sacked in disgrace over antisemitism.
Does @andyburnham have any advisors yet?
Kwasi Kwarteng was a financial analyst and had a PhD degree in economic history from the University of Cambridge
In the 38 days he served as Chancellor, the Tories crashed the economy
If they are briefing like this, this early, it won’t last a year.
This stuff is compulsive for Labour MPs, it’s like some sort of collective mental illness - and completely at odds with socialist, collective politics.
Absolutely ridiculous.
They know he f*****d the country and their party poll ratings too.
Yet he gets a standing ovation for complete and utter failure.
THIS IS WHY WE HAVE SUCH CONTEMPT FOR POLITICIANS RIGHT NOW
Israel's gov wants you to believe this incredibly sweet avuncular Jewish grandpa is an "antisemitic monster" b/c he refuses to sell ice creams in illegal settlements built on stolen land in violation of international law
Reform UK cannot have it both ways.
You cannot platform Lucy Connolly, jailed for inciting violence online, then less than a year later, demand people watch what they say about Reform online.
If you want the moral high ground, wash your hands of Lucy.
A reminder of how Farage campaigned, and won, in Clacton in 2024. Absolutely sickening.
An undercover investigation by Channel 4 News exposed a campaign riddled with extreme racism, homophobia, and even allegations of election spending irregularities.
One Reform UK canvasser was secretly recorded suggesting that army recruits should use migrants arriving on Britain’s beaches for target practice. He also told a paramedic to deny oxygen to migrants in need of medical treatment, described Islam as a “disgusting cult,” and directed racist slurs at then Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
The toxic rhetoric wasn’t limited to one volunteer. Farage’s events manager and other senior campaign figures were also caught making openly homophobic remarks about a police car displaying a Pride flag, mocking officers and saying they should “dance around like fairies” instead of doing their jobs.
The undercover footage also captured a senior campaigner casually claiming the local campaign had already spent roughly twice the legal election spending limit, a potential criminal offence. Reform UK later dismissed the comments as isolated incidents or jokes, but the footage raised serious questions about the culture within Farage’s Clacton campaign.
The Greens are absolutely LOVING this.
Burnham immediately caving will not save @DavidLammy@CatherineWest1 or any of the Labour inner city and student town MPs that will be picked off one by one
Burnham has effectively been given a mandate by the party and the public to exactly and precisely not do this. If he does it he will crash and burn faster than Starmer did.
@owenjonesjourno Louise Haigh "broadly on the Labour Left"!! - She voted to cut winter fuel allowance, voted to keep 350,000 in poverty, voted for welfare cuts and couldn't even bring herself to vote for a ceasefire in Gaza. (An insult to those genuinely on the left?)
Where to even begin with these Labour briefings!
1) Louise Haigh is not working class.
I get that she has a Northern accent, but she is the privately educated daughter of a solicitor.
2) Blocking Ed Miliband from becoming Chancellor because of net zero during rolling heatwaves is a sign of abject political bankruptcy.
3) All of this indicates that Andy Burnham doesn't have any clear sense of what he wants to do with power.
We've seen that film before, and we know how it ends.
4) The fact that there is all this chaotic briefing and counter-briefing already is a very bad sign indeed.
It's itself a sign of a lack of central direction.
5) Shabana Mahmood as Chancellor just means the Treasury running economic policy, and the government sticking to the same agenda as before.
