The encounter took place between Indian Army Major Rohit Shukla and the top Hizbul Mujahideen commander, terrorist 'Sameer Tiger'.

Just 24 hours before the clash on April 29, 2018 a video of Sameer Tiger went viral on social media; in it, he was seen torturing a local informant and issuing a direct challenge to Major Rohit Shukla.

The operation began on April 30, 2018; the very next day after the challenge, the Indian Army received concrete intelligence that Sameer Tiger and his associates were hiding in Drabgam village, Pulwama district, Jammu & Kashmir.

A joint team comprising the Indian Army's 44 Rashtriya Rifles (44 RR), the Jammu & Kashmir Police, and the CRPF immediately cordoned off the area; Major Rohit Shukla himself led the entire operation. During the fierce encounter, the terrorists were holed up inside a house, firing continuously.

Major Shukla and his team advanced tactically; disregarding their own safety, they closed in on the house where the terrorists were hiding. Elimination of Sameer Tiger:

Major Shukla entered the house and neutralized the A++ category Hizbul terrorist Sameer Tiger in a face-to-face combat; another terrorist, Aqib Mushtaq, was also killed.

Major Shukla was wounded he sustained a gunshot wound to his chest during the intense firefight but he succeeded in eliminating both terrorists. For his indomitable courage, valor, and leadership, Major Rohit Shukla was awarded the Shaurya Chakra by the Government of India. Jai Hind 🇮🇳

Shivcharan Gupta, 74, a cloth merchant living in an old age home in Sonipat, died yesterday. He had three daughters; sadly and surprisingly, not one of them turned up for his funeral.

He and his late wife had raised and educated their three daughters, ensuring they were all self-reliant and well-settled, two as schoolteachers, residing across Nepal, UP, and Mumbai. After his wife passed away, Shivcharan lived alone at the old age home, keeping a mobile phone solely to stay in touch with his children.

The manager of the old age home told the media that they had informed his three daughters 20 days ago about his deteriorating health, yet none made the trip to visit him. As his illness worsened, the daughters stopped taking his calls altogether. When Shivcharan finally died, the management immediately contacted them again and offered to hold off on the final rites until they could arrive, but none of the sisters agreed to travel.

Instead of showing up to bid their father farewell, the eldest daughter transferred ₹5,100 online to cover the ritual expenses and requested that the funeral be streamed over a video call. Though they initially asked the staff to preserve his ashes, they quickly backtracked, stating they "did not have time" to pick them up and requested that the old age home handle the immersion in the Ganges as well.

This is so tragic. If a life spent raising children ends in total solitude, one cannot help but ask what the long journey was truly for.

बिहार के शिवहर की 20 वर्षीय रेखा कुमारी कान का इलाज कराने पटना के महावीर आरोग्य संस्थान गई थीं। परिवार का आरोप है कि ऑपरेशन के बाद नर्स ने नस की बजाय आर्टरी में इंजेक्शन लगा दिया। रेखा ने दर्द और तकलीफ़ ��ी शिकायत भी की, लेकिन कथित तौर पर किसी ने ध्यान नहीं दिया। नतीजा इन्फेक्शन इतना बढ़ा कि उनका हाथ काटना पड़ा। नवंबर में होने वाली शादी भी टूट गई। परिवार ने यह भी आरोप लगाया कि FIR दर्ज कराने गए तो पुलिस ने मना कर दिया।

सोचिए, जिस देश में इलाज कराने जाओ और इलाज के बदले अपना हाथ गंवाकर लौटो, वहाँ सिर्फ़ नारे लगाने से क्या होगा? पहले अस्पतालों में जवाबदेही, डॉक्टरों-नर्सों की जिम्मेदारी और पीड़ितों को न्याय तो सुनिश्चित कीजिए। 100 में से 99 पाने वाले घर बैठेंगे और -40 लानेवाले इलाज करेंगे तो और क्या ही उम्मीद करेंगे हम सब ।

नारों से नहीं, व्यवस्था से देश महान बनता है।

A hero of 2018, 2024 and 2026 is no more.

R. Rajesh of Kalliyoor, Thiruvananthapuram, was a rescue volunteer and rappelling instructor who answered the call of duty whenever Keralam needed him.

He stepped forward during the 2018 floods. He was among the rescuers during the Wayanad landslide tragedy in 2024. And in 2026, he made the ultimate sacrifice.

After giving his own life jacket to save a stranded farmer from the swollen Kariangode River in Kannur, Rajesh was swept away by the currents.

His courage, selflessness and sacrifice will forever be a part of Keralam's story.

My deepest condolences to his wife Smt. Lekshmi, his two young sons Arshan and Abhishek, his parents Shri Rajasekharan and Smt. Geetha, and all those who loved him.

I pray that his family finds the strength to bear this immeasurable loss.

Captain Santosh Kumar,
a retired Army officer who noticed something wrong the moment he came home.

He returned to Muthanallur in Anekal Taluk after retiring from the Army in 2008. Every monsoon, roads flooded while nearby lakes stayed dry, and that contradiction bothered him enough to start digging.

He documented lakes and stormwater drains across the taluka and traced the problem to Bengaluru's buried Raja Kaluves between 2017 to 2019. Ancient channels that once moved rainwater from lake to lake. He found British-era maps from 1923 and used them to walk village by village, matching old waterways against what had been built over them.

While studying the link between Muthanallur and Bidaraguppe lakes, he identified four historic Raja Kaluves. One had been so thoroughly encroached that it no longer looked like a waterway at all. Working with residents, he got approvals from the Minor Irrigation Department and restored nearly four kilometres of it, reconnecting it to Battalakere Lake.

The lakes he helped revive are believed to be close to 1,000 years old, some dating back to the reign of Rajaraja Chola I.

This monsoon, neighboring areas flooded again but not Muthanallur.
