सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने मंगलवार को एक अहम टिप्पणी म���ं कहा कि SIR का मामला पूरी तरह से केंद्रीय चुनाव आयोग के अधिकार क्षेत्र में आता है।

जस्टिस सूर्यकांत की अध्यक्षता वाली बेंच ने यह बात एक याचिका की सुनवाई के दौरान कही। कोर्ट ने यह भी जोड़ा कि देश में कुछ लोग अनधिकृत रूप से रह रहे हो सकते हैं, जो अपनी पहचान उजागर होने के डर से सामने नहीं आना चाहेंगे।

सुनवाई के दौरान सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने स्पष्ट किया है कि वह मतदाता सूची के विशेष गहन पुनरीक्षण (SIR) की प्रक्रिया में अन्य राज्यों में कोई हस्तक्षेप नहीं करेगा।

कोर्ट ने कहा कि SIR पूरी तरह से चुनाव आयोग की जिम्मेदारी है और यह उसका विशेषाधिकार (प्रोगेटिव) है।

सुनवाई के दौरान कोर्ट ने टिप��पणी की, 'हम हर काम अपने हाथ में क्यों लें?

चुनाव आयोग के पास अपना तंत्र है, उसे काम करने दिया जाए।' कोर्ट ने याचिकाकर्ताओं से सवाल किया कि वे क्यों चाहते हैं कि सुप्रीम कोर्ट सारे काम अपने नियंत्रण में ले ले।
