Our company incorporation status is stuck at "Approved – pending for PAN TAN allocation" since 29/1/2025 (SRN: AB2468134, Reference: 1-16016235868).Multiple grievances and emails sent, but no resolution for over a week!
Recently had a chance to renovate my place. It gave me 1st hand opportunity to identify super brands in building material/construction space.
1st super brand - Asian Paints. Hands down! There is no competition. I asked multiple people for paint brand and the response is only one - Asian Paints. Moreover, it was very convenient to identify Asian paint shops and dealers near my place. So top distribution and unparalleled brand image. (It would be interesting to see upcoming competition from Birla)
2nd super brand - Pidilite. In case of paint, you still have options. But in adhesive segment, there is no competition for Pidilite. Just extraordinary. And not just for fevicol. They also have HeatX used in furniture. Then they have also acquired many small brands that were doing well. Crazy monopoly with brand name, quality and amazing distribution.
3rd superbrand - Sleepwell (Parent co - Sheela Form). Again, I didn’t find any competitor for Sleepwell.
4th category is Piping products- There were multiple brands including regional brand. So there is high completion in this space. But topmost brands are Astral, Prince, Supreme and Finolex. These PVC products have huge usage in plumbing and other application for home. Even your windows/doors are made of PVC. In fact, the entire kitchen setup can be done on PVC. They are replacing wood big time.
5th category is Tiles. #1 brand in this category is Kajaria. Although there are 100s of local options in tiles that offers similar quality at much lower price. Its because Morbi, Gujarat is the hub of tiles that manufacture the product which is sold under various brand names.
6th category is Ply and Sunmica- Again, many regional brands in this space. So highly unorganized market. Leading brands are Century and Greenply. But even the contractor/architect suggest other brands that are available at much lower price with similar quality. And contractor/architect have high influence on your decision.
7th Sanitaryware- Biggest super brand -Cera!
Astral is also picking momentum.
Also realized that majority of this sector is still highly unorganized. Normal people don’t understand the difference in quality and hence prices can vary big time. So there is massive requirement for branding to ensure quality at reasonable price with complete transparency. For instance, a guy asked for Rs 400/meter for a curtain which was available for Rs 140/meter at another shop. It’s difficult to build trust. Overall, there is massive growth opportunity in this entire building material space. Specially, now that we are in big capex cycle across residential and commercial space.
Note: This is in South Rajasthan. It might vary from regions to region. Which is the topmost building material brand in your area?

As I always say there are 3 important factors to be successful in the mkt. Knowledge, Courage and Patience. Out of these 3 courage is the most important factor. It can not be borrowed, it needs to be developed.
