this is Dario and sama's worst nightmare -
A law firm buying Nvidia servers.
Latham & Watkins is building an in-house AI stack..
this is US’s second-largest law firm with $8.3 Billion in revenue last year
And now it has -
- Nvidia hardware it controls
- open-weight models it can fine tune
- proprietary legal data it is trusted to protect
- infrastructure only Latham employees can access
A law firm has decades of contracts, negotiations, client context, legal reasoning, and institutional knowledge.
They dont want to give all of that away to OpenAI or Anthropic in exchange for expensive tokens..
And on top of that - risk their data being used to train frontier models..
This will happen more and more now..
The big AI labs have no moat.. nothing protecting their largest customers from moving on..
The biggest companies in the world will -
- own the compute
- own the data
- own the workflow
- fine tune the model around their business
- switch providers when the pricing or quality changes
Dario and sama want to make this illegal by bringing in regulation.. and become the AI overlords..
@superalesha That what artists or pseudo artists do, companies also do !
Advanced ones are so much ahead you can't even make what they make if they give you the detailed process.
Think @ASMLcompany or @cerebras.
Not being afraid of building in the open is the truest proof of strength.
@0xSero I wish I could cross test these models accross RTX vs. AMD PRO archs, but there are so many variables in the manner llama.cpp or vllm are compiled, that the results wouldn't be easy to compare.
Lately I am finding myself *really* struggling to ‘lock in’.
I used to have a gut instinct on what to create next. I would occasionally find myself obsessed with some concept and hyper focus on bringing it to reality.
Lately I wonder if I’ve lost that instinct. I increasingly struggle to concentrate. I drift from one idea to the next, but before there was this sense that you knew what was worth pursuing and what was a dead end. But with rapidly advancing technology, nothing really seems like a dead end anymore. Much of the curiosity is gone.
It is as if the desire for pursuit comes from partly not knowing if something will or will not work out.
Then the combination of global instability, rapid advances in AI, having young kids, real time redefinition of the value of art, and a gradual misalignment with the web3 space, the scams, the posturing, lack of authenticity, the informational asymmetry. And to say this delicately, there are also some performative aspects expected that do not align with me and that can be problematic.
It all has me wondering has me wondering what is next, what will bring a sense of joy back, where to look for it etc.
I am curious if any other artists have/are experiencing this at the moment. How are you / did you get through it?
‼️ Researcher Erica Windisch skipped coordinated vulnerability disclosure and published 11 unpatched Tailscale flaws.
In her lab, Tailscale SSH race conditions let one hacked device get root on other servers and add a rogue node.
