Really grateful to the Chief of Army Staff #COAS for speaking at the inaugural of the 2-day #CoimbatoreConclave 2025 at @kumaraguru_in organised along with @RISETFoundation
Looking forward to the intense deliberations on geopolitics & geoeconomics!
#GeneralUpendraDwivedi, #COAS, today virtually attended a Conclave themed “Reconciling Evolving Global Dynamics into Strategic Opportunities for India”, co-hosted by Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts & Science and the RISET Foundation - an institution that brings together experts from government, industry and academia to provide a platform for qualitative, domain-driven research aimed at strengthening policy formulation in the fields of security, technology and the economy.
On the occasion, the #COAS launched the RISET website and addressed both institutions. He lauded their sustained efforts in advancing scholarly research across diverse disciplines, underscoring the critical role of academia in shaping informed national discourse and strategic thought. He further exhorted the faculty to pursue excellence in research and innovation, aligned with India’s national vision of #ViksitBharat2047.
The conclave was attended by Mr Shankar Vanavarayar, President, Kumaraguru Institutions; Dr Gulshan Rai, former National Cyber Security Coordinator and DG CERT-In & currently President RISET; Lieutenant General BS Raju (Retd), former VCOAS & presently DG RISET and also Dr Deepesh Chandrasekharan, Principal, Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts & Science.

The absolute mayhem because of the IT outage today is not just about #Crowdstrike or #Microsoft or #Windows.
It's about how vulnerable we are, that a single point of failure can cause so much disruption.
I am a south Indian living in north India for the last 15+ yrs. I am not a central government or armed/police forces employee, just a plain private citizen. I have lived and travelled India north of the Vindhyas extensively. Never once in all these years have I heard anyone in the north ever say anything disrespectful about a person from south India or the region in general. On the contrary you often get a degree more respect and infinite curiosity to know about the south, it's culture, geography and languages.
(OK, there used to be a tendency in Delhi to call any South Indian a 'madarasi', but that is a minor irritation, not a slur)
Thus it's been a matter of great shame for me to hear what the MP from the DMK said on the floor of Parliament and general discourse on social media after the recent election results. (Just a few minutes ago I read a tweet from an educated Kannadiga software engineer in Bangalore saying persons from 'Bimaru' states must not drive autos in Bangalore. Disgusting.)
Honestly, I have felt more welcomed in North India than I ever felt as a Tamilian who grew up in Bangalore.
A humble dhaba owner in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, once refused to take money from me for food because I am from the south. He said, Punjab can feed south India, why I need money from you. That is sign of a big heart, not him being boastful.
A mechanic in Madhya Pradesh and a bunch of spare parts shops opened up their shops during Rang Panchami to help a stranded south Indian biker.
Almost everywhere in those days riding through Rajasthan, Haryana and UP... People used to initially try making conversation with me in halting English seeing my 'KA' registration bike, till I assured them I spoke Hindi well. No one has ever forced me to speak or learn Hindi. Even if I acted like I didn't know Hindi, there would be no chauvinism.
I have lived in Delhi and Dehradun, where I have got 'preferential' treatment when I have had to rent homes, because I am a South Indian!
I am unable to comprehend what is this general hatred towards Indians living in North India that is emanating from the south. Right now the chauvinism stems from the fact that the south is a better economic engine than the north, literally it's that. Mark my words, that ain't forever. North India is waking up to its potential very soon.
(Btw this bakwaas about the United States of South India - first demonstrate that any two south Indian states can share a river's water without intervention from a central 'north Indian' agency!)

I am eternally grateful that I got to study and grow in Army Public School Bangalore. What I see in this bad discourse right now is a lack of exposure to other cultures and languages in India. My school provided me that 🙏

My one and only grouse with North Indians: Parathas are not breakfast. Sorry. 🙏

Vale, Tove Skutnabb-Kangas, hard to believe this warrior for language rights, a pioneer and global figure supporting immigrant and Indigenous populations everywhere, and for many decades, has died. RIP Tove.
We honor the work and life of linguist Dr. Tove Skutnabb-Kangas, who passed on this week. Her fierce dedication and advocacy for language rights, education in minoritized languages, and resisting language oppression was a powerful force. Some of her work is linked below:
Rest in power, dear Tove 🙏🏾. I consider it an honour and a privilege to have known you and spent some time interacting with the powerhouse of conviction and reservoir of empathy that was you... #ToveSkutnabbKangas#LinguisticHumanRights
What a magnificent new home for the people who uphold our Constitution, represent every citizen of this great Nation and protect the diversity of her one People @narendramodi ji.
A new Parliament building for a New India but with the age old dream of Glory for India. Jai Hind! #MyParliamentMyPride
Unfair to dole out northern Indian food choices on a CBE-MAS Shatabdi #12244. Can't we have local cuisine for similar rates instead of deciding a uniform menu across the country? Come on! @RailMinIndia@GMSRailway
