Without the Forest Department, India’s forests, wildlife, and ecosystems would not survive even a year. The Wildlife Protection Act is the legal spine that shields our biodiversity from poaching, illegal mining, and encroachment. The Forest Department, despite its flaws, is the only organized force that patrols millions of hectares, controls fires, prevents encroachments, monitors wildlife, and manages protected areas that sustain water, soil, and climate stability for the entire nation. You cannot expect forests and animals to protect themselves in a country of 1.4 billion people where every acre of land faces pressure from industry, agriculture, and settlement.

Removing the law and dismantling the department would hand over forests to timber mafias, poachers, and land grabbers, undoing decades of hard-won conservation gains. If tigers still roam, elephants still migrate, and mangroves still guard our coasts, it is because the Forest Department exists and performs its duty, often under immense risk and with minimal recognition. The solution is not destruction but strengthening — more transparency, better community engagement, stronger enforcement, and greater support for those who guard our natural heritage.

By dismissing these institutions, you insult thousands of field staff and officials who risk their lives daily in remote terrains to protect India’s living wealth. Forests need guardians, not destroyers — and your suggestion given in a state of your total madness, if followed, would guarantee their quick and total ruin. So, Madhav, please — if any sanity remains in you — learn a bit more about forests, forestry, and wildlife before you speak again.

यदि यह कानून और विभाग समाप्त कर दिए गए, तो जंगल लकड़ी माफियाओं, शिकारियों और भूमाफियाओं के हवाले हो जाएँगे, और दशकों की कठिन मेहनत से प्राप्त संरक्षण-उपलब्धियाँ पलभर में मिट जाएँगी। आज यदि बाघ अब भी दहाड़ते हैं, हाथी अब भी चलते हैं और मैंग्रोव अब भी तटों की रक्षा कर रहे हैं, तो इसका श्रेय वन विभाग को जाता है, जो सीमित संसाधनों में भी अपना कर्तव्य निभा रहा है। समाधान विनाश नहीं, बल्कि सशक्तिकरण है — अधिक पारदर्शिता, स्थानीय समुदायों की भागीदारी, बेहतर प्रवर्तन और उन फील्ड कर्मियों का सम्मान, जो प्रतिदिन जान की बाज़ी लगाकर हमारी प्राकृतिक धरोहर की रक्षा करते हैं।
इन संस्थाओं को कमज़ोर या समाप्त करना वनों में कार्य करने वाले हज़ारों वनरक्षकों, फॉरेस्ट रेंजर्स और पूरे विभाग का अपमान होगा जो इस धरती के जीवन की अंतिम पंक्ति पर खड़े हैं। जंगलों को संरक्षक चाहिए, विनाशक नहीं — और तुम्हारे पागलपन में दिया गया सुझाव यदि लागू कर दिया जाए, तो यह भारत के वनों का त्वरित और पूर्ण विनाश सुनिश्चित करेगा। इसलिए माधव, यदि तुममें ज़रा-सी भी समझ बाकी है, तो कृपया कुछ और सीखो — वनों, वानिकी और वन्यजीवों के बारे में — और तब बोलो।

Biodiversity protection is failing

A target to protect 30% of land and water for nature by 2030 agreed in 2022 isn’t leading to increased biodiversity, according to a report by researchers from London's Natural History Museum. Areas of the planet protected for their biodiversity are declining faster than unprotected areas, and creating more protected space won’t necessarily reverse this decline. The NHM report authors suggest that the worse outcomes in protected areas could be because the protection focuses on just a single species, or that the land was already damaged.
