Spender is an utter disgrace and part responsible for this highest capital gains tax in the world mess. At least now she’s realised what a f… up it is; and how it destroys our economy! When will Labor realise a 70% tax rate l, and lying about it, doesn’t work👇
With unemployment at a five-year high of 4.7%, @JEChalmers and @AlboMP are making it harder for Australians to start businesses and create jobs.
Rushing a CGT Bill into Parliament with barely any notice and a few start-up carve-outs won’t fix the damage. This is economic vandalism. What are your thoughts? #StoptheCGTtoGetAhead #JoinWARonCGT

“the CGT changes are “25 years overdue.” Is Wayne Swan economically incompetent?
@chrisbrycki and the @FinancialReview panel just explained why they’re more likely to be disastrous, pushing investors out of direct shares into pooled structures like LICs and ETFs to dodge rates as high as 82%, starving the already weak ASX small-cap market of capital, and hitting business owners, capital raisers, the property market and even the local art market.
All four panellists agreed: hiking CGT isn’t the answer to Australia’s housing or productivity problems.
This isn’t overdue reform. It’s a war on aspiration and productive investment. #StoptheCGTtoGetAhead #JoinWARonCGT
An estimated 80% of polling stations were closed when they extended the hours.
213 cities that voted Flávio in the 1st round, voted Lula in the 2nd.
10,282,707 more votes.
Soros celebrates.
Make of this information what you will.
The Biden State Department involved itself in Brazil's election, threatening action if Jair Bolsonaro did not concede. Time for the Trump State Department to play by the same rules. Don't be cucks. The election was rigged and it must be done again, the legal way.
@johnhawkinsrwn Yeah, this retard is so fucking dumb that he doesn’t realize that our policies serve the Ukrainian people.
Pieces of shit like this want the war to continue until every last man in Ukraine has died in a ditch.
They are utter scum of the Earth.
John Cowperthwaite did more for human prosperity than any development economist drawing a government salary ever managed, and he did it by refusing to do almost anything at all.
As Hong Kong's Financial Secretary from 1961 to 1971, Cowperthwaite ran one of the most radically free economies the modern world has ever seen. He kept taxes flat and low (the top income tax rate sat at 15%), ran consistent budget surpluses, abolished import tariffs, and blocked nearly every subsidy request that crossed his desk. When British civil servants demanded economic statistics to justify intervention, he refused to collect them. Not out of laziness. He genuinely believed that giving planners numbers gave them excuses.
The results? In 1960, Hong Kong's per capita income stood at roughly 28% of Britain's. By 1997, Hong Kong had surpassed Britain. That trajectory happened without natural resources, without foreign aid, and without a single five-year plan drafted by well-intentioned economists from Oxford. Hong Kong had a harbor, people willing to work, and a bureaucrat with enough intellectual discipline to keep the state out of their way.
Capital flows toward secure property rights and reliable rules, and flees the moment politicians start allocating it. Every industry Beijing picked as a "priority sector" during those same decades burned through subsidies and produced junk. Hong Kong's industries emerged organically, serving real demand, building real wealth.
You benefit from this history whether you know it or not, because Hong Kong's success gave the world a controlled experiment that still embarrasses every advocate of managed development. The control group thrived. The planned economies didn't.
Cowperthwaite retired to St Andrews, received a knighthood, and gave almost no interviews. That restraint was entirely in character.
Iraq says its oil exports have surged so far in October to near pre-war levels. According to the country's oil minister, Iraq has exported ~3.4m b/d on average so far this month, down marginally from ~3.7m b/d pre-war, and up from ~3m b/d in September and ~2.4m b/d in August.
@ZelenskyyUa@Energy_Tidbits Resign you corrupt scumbag and come to terms with Russia. How many thousands of the Ukraine’s best and brightest have you sacrificed for your pathetic ego?
The only proper response is righteous fury.
We inherited a glorious civilization that took hundreds of years of toil and struggle to build.
And it will either self-immolate by importing masses of unassimilable barbarians.
Or we can take it back.
I choose the latter.
Great to see One Nation joining the Coalition in opposing Labor’s destructive CGT and trust changes.
The Coalition called this out months ago and pledged to reverse it. One Nation is now adding its voice on restoring the 50% CGT discount and scrapping the trust tax.
These experiments punish productive investment and smash aspiration. The more voices against them, the better. #StoptheCGTtoGetAhead #JoinWARonCGT
Raising the GST to fund income tax cuts is a terrible idea because they'll simply raise the income tax in the future. Income tax cuts should be funded by lower spending.
Pro-tax people are idiots.
All of them.
And I will die on this hill.
They are slaves to the state who moan, “Govern me harder, daddy.”
I’m fine with a one-time sales tax at the point of purchase. That’s it. That’s all we need to fund the most basic functions of the government.
Every other tax we pay is unnecessary and if it means that revenue falls short of meeting the budget, the budget is bloated and should be cut. Just like at the federal level, there is plenty to eliminate, consolidate, or trim within state and local governments.
