Wake up, drink tea, wear blazer, waistcoat, neck cloth, overcoat, gloves, carry hat join, greet one Duke, greet one Duchess, spend the rest of the day discussing whose daughter smiled at whose son during last night’s ball, also wondering if Lady Whistledown don use your family matter write newsletter.
Enter in-law house, drink tea again, reason the man tell am: My Lord, I seek your daughter’s hand in marriage.
Make the man ask me wetin I dey do. Make I tell am say “I be Viscount” 😤
Omo, make I leave Bridgeton life first, face this third mainland traffic. 🤧😭
Had a friend who was Igbo, I was the only Yoruba amongst the grooms men, others were Igbo. Bro married a Yoruba lady from Oyo whose dad is a chief with two kings in attendance. I was the only one who prostrated with him, others stood apart and were watching. Emptied my pocket for the Alaga folks as no one else were interested in the whole process.
PS: We were all in our white agbada oooo. It was that day I understand the concept of “Cross Cultural Wedding” from a different perspective.
My advice: You are free to uphold your beliefs and culture, but don’t do cross cultural unions if you cannot go all in, because one side will def be disrespected! T 🤝
