Last night, I asked the West Hollywood City Council to delay approval of its revised agreement with Flock Safety until three revisions were made to ensure the document accurately reflected the staff report.

I still do not understand why key protections in the 2023 agreement were weakened or omitted, why the definitions of those protections were hollowed out, or why no one could provide a consistent explanation. I placed three of those discrepancies on the record and asked the Council to withhold approval until they were addressed.

It seemed like a no-brainer to me, as the existing cameras would have remained operational from the 2023 contract, so public safety would not have even been interrupted. Even Los Angeles was still reviewing its own ALPR agreements. There was time to get this right.

Instead, the agreement passed 3–2.
Every generation inherits a technology whose convenience arrives before its consequences are understood. Government’s responsibility is to confront those consequences while prevention is still possible.

Last night, prevention would have cost only a few revisions — and the willingness to wait.

Twins, Vaccines, and a Mother’s Arrest

Andrea Shaw gave birth to her third child on June 25. Four days later, an Idaho grand jury indicted her for murdering the twin toddlers she lost fourteen months earlier. The next day, she was arrested and jailed while her newborn went home with her husband.

Dallas and Tyson Shaw died eight days after receiving multiple vaccines at a well visit, found in the bed they shared. Shaw raised concerns with the pediatrician beforehand about her husband's family history of adverse flu shot reactions. She has insisted since day one that the shots killed her sons.

The state's entire case rests on one autopsy finding, and the forensic literature on that finding is damning for the prosecution. There's no injury to either child, no sign of a struggle, and no confession. The state's fallback argument, that two children dying together is too improbable to be natural, is the exact reasoning English courts threw out over two decades ago after several mothers were wrongfully convicted and later exonerated.

A judge has now revoked Shaw's bond entirely, days after major surgery, while she was nursing her newborn. This one is a must-read.
