Gone are the days when most kids either volunteered for hard tasks or were placed in challenging situations by their parents, fostering grit and resilience.
Today, helicopter and rescue parenting dominate. Quitting, transferring, or opting out of difficult situations has become the norm. Even worse, kids avoid starting something because it’s too hard.
I miss the days when every kid had a summer job, most joined their high school football team, and occasional playground scuffle happened between rivals behind the gym after school.
