🚨 MAJOR BREAKING: Premier League confirm an independent Commission has found Manchester City GUILTY OF ALL CHARGES related to serious breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules over a nine-season period, and the majority of charges in relation to its failure to co-operate with the League’s investigation.

The club has the right to appeal the independent Commission’s findings and has until Friday 2 October to exercise that right.

The Premier League Board’s intention is that the full process (including any appeals and publication of relevant decisions) is concluded as soon as possible.

The independent Commission found that between Seasons 2009/10 and 2017/18:
- Manchester City arranged ‘sham’ contracts (which misrepresented the true agreement between the parties) with a number of its commercial partners, as well as relying on ‘sham’ agreements with others, to artificially inflate the club’s revenues and reduce its costs
- The club filed misstated accounts and concealed the true state of its finances from its auditors and football regulators
- Manchester City was significantly in breach of both the Premier League’s and UEFA’s spending limits
- During the Premier League’s investigation, Manchester City committed multiple breaches of its duties of co-operation and utmost good faith towards the League (three of the four alleged breaches were upheld)

Spain Approves Ban On Full-Face Coverings, Including Burqa And Niqab, In Public Spaces

The Spanish city of Lleida has approved a new ban on full-face coverings in most public spaces, in a move that affects garments such as the Muslim burqa and niqab.

Lleida, a city of about 150,000 people in northeastern Spain’s Catalonia region, had introduced a similar restriction in 2010, becoming the first Spanish city to do so. However, Spain’s Supreme Court overturned the measure in 2013 after a legal challenge by a Muslim association, ruling that it infringed on religious freedom and exceeded the powers of a local authority.

On Friday, Lleida’s city parliament voted 16-11 to amend its municipal regulations. The new rule does not specifically mention the burqa or niqab but prohibits people from “remaining in or moving through public spaces with items or elements that totally cover the face.”

The regulation provides exceptions for situations involving the exercise of basic rights, places of worship and locations or activities where such practices are socially accepted. Anyone who violates the new rule will face fines.

The measure was passed through an unusual alliance between the Catalan Socialist Party, far-right Vox and Catalan separatist party Junts.

Lleida’s Socialist mayor, Felix Larrosa, defended the decision, saying, “Living together means respecting one another, and respecting one another also means following the rules.”
