HAPPENING NOW: Governor @JoshStein_ is in WNC through the weekend to mark the #helene two year mark. And @WLOS_13’ @ElijahSkipper spoke with him one-on-one to reflect on the recovery progress made.
Congrats to @SoundOfLifeMedi client @ElijahSkipper — finalist for @rtdnac TV Investigative Reporter of the Year for his work at @WLOS_13.

Proud to represent you! 👏
Pretty incredible week covering the G20 in Asheville.
Proud to see Western North Carolina on a global stage — and to ask what it could mean for investment, opportunity and Helene recovery back home. @WLOS_13
.@NC_Governor is in Washington, D.C., today to meet with North Carolina's congressional delegation about the need for additional Helene recovery funds. Read the governor's letter to lawmakers here: https://t.co/gejIyDjjgb
@JoshStein_@WLOS_13 The letter also highlights recovery progress so far:
✅ More than 1,000 homes repaired or rebuilt
✅ More than 2,800 homes in progress
✅ 127 water and sewer projects funded through EPA programs
✅ 372 voluntary property acquisitions approved through FEMA mitigation programs
🚨 NEW: Gov. @JoshStein_ spent the day in Washington meeting with North Carolina's congressional delegation and making the case for more Helene recovery funding.
The big headline: North Carolina's request has dropped from $13.48 billion to about $10.17 billion. @WLOS_13
@JoshStein_@WLOS_13 Stein credits some of that reduction to funding already awarded and updated damage assessments.
The governor writes that the state is "continually monitoring our progress, refining our approach, and funding requests accordingly." @WLOS_13
BREAKING NEWS: Heavy police presence at Spruce Hill Apartments in Asheville as APD investigates a shooting.
Authorities confirm two gunshot victims have been transported to Mission Hospital. Police say the suspect has not been located.
Developing.
@WLOS_13
@WLOS_13 Trump told Stein the administration would “take a hard look” at North Carolina’s $13.5B request.
The question now: Will Congress and federal agencies move? @WLOS_13
Breaking: Governor @JoshStein_ met face-to-face with Donald Trump at the White House today, pressing for an additional $13.5 BILLION in Hurricane Helene recovery funds for Western North Carolina. @WLOS_13
@WLOS_13 Stein told me President Trump appeared receptive — noting the president has visited WNC at least twice since the storm.
“He actually has laid eyes on it… he was explaining to the rest of the room just the unique nature and scale of the damage because he’s seen it.” @WLOS_13
