THE DEAD CAN’T FIGHT BACK
How a man speaks about the dead tells you something about his character.
So I went through Donald Trump’s own words about McCain, Powell, Mueller, Reiner and now Dolly.
It’s uglier than I remembered.
Especially because Trump once wondered how HE would be treated when he dies.
Careful what you teach us, Mr. President.

IRAN
•There are some signs that U.S. pressure is squeezing Iran's economy. The Trump administration's of tighter sanctions drove Iranians to panic buy food and fuel this week, while labor unions resumed small demonstrations against rising costs outpacing stagnant salaries.
•Ordinary Iranians may be feeling the squeeze, but there are no signs to suggest the pressure is working on their leaders. To the contrary, new billboards posted in Tehran last week suggest that seven hardliners who oppose negotiating with the U.S. have consolidated power.
•That's part of why Qatar's Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al Thani, is visiting Tehran today. He reportedly has the same mission as Pakistan's army chief, Asim Munir, did when he called on Iranian officials in Tehran earlier in the week: to lobby them to de-escalate and revive dialogue with the U.S.
•Al Thani and Munir will presumably offer to help mediate between American and Iranian negotiators - as they did in the lead-up to the memorandum of understanding the U.S. and Iran signed in June.
•But first, both the U.S. and Iran must agree to new talks. Neither seems open to re-engaging. Pres. Trump said he was in "no hurry" to engage in dialogue, and Iran's Revolutionary Guard hardliners are busy blaming the U.S. for blocking their deal with Oman to reopen the Strait of Hormuz (by refusing to agree to Iran's demands).
GAZA
•The head of Pres. Trump's Board of Peace for Gaza, Nickolay Mladenov, addressed the UN Security Council yesterday to deliver some unusually pointed criticism of Israel.
•Mladenov accused Israel of working against Pres. Trump's efforts to secure Hamas's agreement to disarm by continuing to strike Hamas and rejecting a disarmament deal Trump proposed last week. The U.S. considers Israel's continued strikes "unacceptable" and likely to delay disarmament, Mladenov added.
HAITI
•In addition to killing at least 47 displaced civilians in a massacre in Kenscoff on Sunday, gang members kidnapped 50 more.
•The leader of the Baz 5 Segond gang threatened to execute the hostages his thugs are holding if security forces try to quell the violence in Kenscoff.
•An expert on Haiti's gang violence described the threat as a catch-22 for the government: "If forces don't act, they've failed to protect them; if they do and hostages die, the gangs will blame the state."
NATURE
•Hundreds were killed and thousands remain missing after a devastating flash flood swept away villages in Nepal and Tibet.
•Geologists think the floods were set off by a glacial collapse that triggered an avalanche and sent debris flowing downstream and over the banks of local rivers.
