there something that’s been bothering me for a bit on here and i’ll probably delete this tomorrow but after seeing this behaviour on the tl for the umpteenth time i have to get this off my chest. i’ve noticed a pattern among certain fans, especially newer ones and it’s that they seem to be drawn to anything related to Michael that was released without his consent. i’m not saying people can’t enjoy posthumous material, but i’ve noticed that some fans seem to value those releases more than the work Michael intentionally chose to share with the public. not only that, but the latter is usually completely disregarded and they show little to no interest in engaging with it at all. i’m not talking about only unreleased songs and demos, but also about photos, videos, and personal information that he likely never wanted made public. what stands out to me and what is making me extremely mad isn’t simply that they enjoy these things (which is understandable),but it’s the almost obsessive desire to seek them out. there’s something sinister in the way they search for these things.
it makes me wonder whether they truly appreciate his work, bc most of the time it feels less like an appreciation of his artistry and more like an interest in bypassing his personal boundaries and choices, and that’s what makes it interesting for them.
idk maybe i’m just particularly upset tonight about the way he’s still treated, and maybe i had faith that the biopic would make people more empathetic and that he would be treated like a human being for once
