Calling for a referendum does not, by itself, create a constitutional obligation to hold one. The decisive question is what the Constitution requires, not what any organisation prefers.
Reporting such demands is legitimate, but responsible journalism should also explain that there is a constitutional debate about whether a referendum is legally required. Context matters as much as the headline.

Its a failing project why now​,on paper this massive coalition looks impressive.But in reality, it’s just the same old civil society groups re-branding themselves.These are the same organizations that have spent the last ten years failing to get any real traction with the public.These groups naturally pull in completely different directions. Once the initial social media hype fades, a single church leader isn't going to be enough to keep trade unions, radical political groups, and war veterans on the same page. It’s an incredibly fragile alliance.
​No real solutions: The entire campaign is built on saying "NO" They are great at telling the public what they are against, but they aren't offering a single practical solution to fix Zimbabwe's actual economic and administrative problems.
​The biggest proof that this campaign is weak is how late they are to the game. Constitution Amendment Bill No. 3 #CA3 was introduced way back in February 2026. After that, there was a mandatory 90-day period for public feedback, followed by intense debates in Parliament. By late June, the bill passed through both the National Assembly and the Senate with huge majorities.
​So,why did this coalition wait until the bill was already on the President's desk to finally launch an "action" campaign?
​ Waiting until the last minute suggests this isn't about the constitution at all. It looks like an attempt to grab international headlines, raise funds, and help these struggling groups look relevant again.
​The public had months to speak up through the proper legal channels. Trying to start a protest after Parliament has already finished its work completely undermines the democratic process they claim to protect. #CA3 Done Deal

The launch of a new action-oriented campaign “Let the People Decide” opposing Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 by a broad coalition, Sungano yeVanhu / Ubumbano lomphakathi / The People’s Coalition, is a very significant development.

The coalition is led a credible and respected church leader Reverend Dr Kupa Mtata and brings together the organisations which have been at the forefront of fighting CAB3 including the Defend the Constitution Platform (DCP), Constitution Defence Forum (CDF), National Constitutional Assembly (NCA), Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU), Zimbabwe Constitution Movement (ZICOMO), and the War Veterans Pressure Group.

Very encouraging to see the Church taking the lead standing up for justice against the forces of darkness and to see all these leaders pulling in the same direction.

Now we, the people, need to find our courage and be ready to take ACTION! 🔥🔥🔥

The latest figures from Beitbridge Border Post illustrate both the scale of the challenge and Zimbabwe's determination to respond with organisation, compassion, and national responsibility.

Between 28 May and 30 June, a total of 56,473 Zimbabweans returned home through Beitbridge as anti-migrant protests continued in parts of South Africa. Government's organised repatriation programme. These are not merely statistics; they represent thousands of Zimbabwean families choosing the security of their homeland.

The coordinated response demonstrates the importance of a Government prepared to protect its citizens wherever they may be. Under the leadership of President Emmerson D. Mnangagwa, the Second Republic has consistently emphasised that no Zimbabwean should be left behind in moments of crisis. The repatriation programme reflects that philosophy in practical terms, ensuring that vulnerable citizens can return home safely and with dignity.

Equally commendable has been the humanitarian contribution of Dr. Kudakwashe Tagwirei, whose financial support for the repatriation effort exemplifies the constructive role that patriotic private citizens can play alongside Government. His intervention reinforces the principle that nation building is a shared responsibility. When public institutions and the private sector work together in the national interest, the beneficiaries are ordinary Zimbabweans.

The return of thousands of citizens also presents an opportunity. Today's Zimbabwe is investing in agriculture, mining, manufacturing, infrastructure, and entrepreneurship under Vision 2030. Returning Zimbabweans bring valuable skills, experience, and resilience that can contribute to the country's continued economic transformation.

Ultimately, the true strength of a nation lies in its ability to unite around its people. The successful repatriation of thousands of Zimbabweans is therefore more than a logistical achievement; it is a demonstration of solidarity, patriotism, and a shared commitment to ensuring that every Zimbabwean has a place to call home.

The survey was conducted between 9–18 April 2026, with 1,641 completed interviews carried out by 51 field enumerators. The survey instrument was pre-tested by 29 researchers, and 76.8% of respondents had voted in previous elections. The sample was nearly evenly split by gender, comprising 49.3% women and 50.7% men.
