Message to footballers:

I’m getting a lot of mentions to a lot of footballers' videos and I love the trend.

Last year, we opened up the opportunity to invite over 10 players from X and unfortunately, all of them did not meet up including a winger who was promising from his video compilation.

This is what you need to understand my dear footballers, the level is different. In the NPFL, it’s the elite League in the country, the demands are high compared to where you are coming from. You need to double your efforts during trials with NPFL clubs, the odds are against you and you need to give 90% to get a chance.

Occasionally, it could mean that you need more time to develop before you are ready for the NPFL but trust me the NPFL level is very high, and the pressure level is different. The environment is tedious and you need to be at a top level to compete in the NPFL. Your mentality and work level must be top.

This is my advice to most footballers, the moment you cross 18, you have to move out of Academy football. Seek opportunities in the NLO and NNL. I wish the NLO could be expanded, we need the NLO to run like the NNL and maybe in a regional format. We need more games in the NLO for young footballers.

The NNL is a better league compared to the NLO, you will travel and understand how it works. You feel and experience the pressure that will prepare you for the NPFL tasks. But as an 18-year-old, starting with the NLO will help your growth. At 19-20, you should seek opportunities in the NNL and NPFL.

Yes, there are exceptional talents who will pass the trials as an Academy product and sign for an NPFL club. In 2022 when we debuted in the NNL, 90% of our squad and players were from the Academy, apart from a few of them who previously featured in the NLO.

This season, we took Leonard from Academy without NLO and NNL experience. Same for Malik who played University games and joined us from Imperial. We also signed Thankgod from an Academy in Uyo.

We focused more on players who had NNL experience and we got Emmanuel, Marvelous, Adio, Giant, and a few other guys.

@IkoroduCityFC the template and policy is to compete with young boys, these are players that might find it difficult to get an opportunity with the big clubs in the NPFL. We set up as the solution to close the gap and give these young boys an opportunity, but you must be exceptional.

Two players that we got from NNL clubs were “stolen” by Rivers United during the ValueJet Cup. We are happy for them, because this is the kind of growth and opportunity we are building to help our football ecosystem. Without our platform, Rivers United might not see them.

My message this morning to young footballers, seek opportunities with clubs in the NLO and NNL and build your experience.

Clubs don’t sign players based on emotions and friendship, even if you are my relative you must convince the coaches at Ikorodu City. The only thing I can do is get you a spot for a try-out.

In June, we will open up opportunities for a lot of young players to try-out with us.

I love the idea of young players investing in video highlights, please keep doing this, and don't relent. Keep talking about yourself, and use the social media tools to communicate, the clubs and scouts are watching.

Football in Nigeria, just like every other sector has got limited opportunity and you must make use of any opportunity you get.

Disappointment and setbacks are part of the learning process and experience you need to grow. Oliseh once said Troost Ekong was not ready for the Super Eagles but Ekong came back better and stronger. Even before the AFCON, Peseiro said, Ekong was not in his plans, Ekong finished the same tournament as the best player.

One or two failed trials should not discourage you, it is a message that you need to work more and improve your game. When you go on trials and they drop you, ask questions from the coaches, don’t be angry, get feedback that will make you better.
