So
June to September - Mumbai has waterlogging and rainfall disruptions
October to January - shit air
Feb to may - 38 degree Celsius temp
God has decided to cook us
India can never have NewYork like AQI, and that’s not because we’re “doomed,” it’s because our geography works very differently.
New York gets rain throughout the year, has no massive deserts nearby and has nothing like the Himalayas trapping air. India, on the other hand, has a long dry season, loose alluvial soil, frequent dust uplift, and a literal mountain wall acting like a lid on the entire northern plains. Expecting Manhattan-blue skies every day is just unrealistic.
And this isn’t just about the north. Even in coastal Mumbai, despite sea winds and heavy monsoons the city experiences high AQI outside the rainy months because construction dust, traffic emissions, and stagnant winter air build up faster than the system can flush them out.
There have even been episodes where dust from the Arabian Peninsula travelled across the Arabian Sea and blanketed Mumbai, raising AQI sharply and cutting visibility despite being thousands of kms away from the source. If Mumbai struggles despite ocean ventilation, you can imagine the challenge inland cities face.
But none of this means we’re destined to live with 400–900 AQI. Most of what makes our air truly “toxic” is man-made; vehicle emissions, construction dust, open waste burning, industries and stubble burning. These can absolutely be controlled. Beijing and Singapore were once extremely polluted; with strict policies both now spend most days in the 30–80 AQI range.
That’s the benchmark India should aim for. Not New York, but clean, breathable Singapore/Beijing-level air. We may always be a bit dustier, but we don’t have to be hazardous.
There are literally two airports in Mumbai and people are complaining about 2nd airport being far.
Solution: Fly from BOM
These same people shut up when they travel to KUL, Londonistan, NY - airports which are 60KM - 70KM away from downtown.
We Indians are too much privileged.
No one would complain so much about navi Mumbai airport but the only way to reach there is by road
It's too far to reach by road
It's an isolated piece of Infra. Imagine coming back tired from a flight and you you have to then travel 2 hours to reach home
Rickshaw convenience > City's infrastructure upgrade.
Yehi mindset se chalenge toh ho gaya development.
They aren't shutting it to torture you, but upgrading it so people like you don’t start calling out the lack of infra later. And T2 is absorbing half the traffic anyway, complete with direct metro access now. Y'all want top class airport but throws tantrum the second they actually upgrade it.
Woke up to the news of Mumbai shutting it's Domestic airport Terminal 1. Every day it seems authorities brainstorm on how to make lives of people here tougher. Man, loved that airport. There's something about small airports that feel so accessible and convenient. Like you could take a rickshaw to that airport. Ab jao bc Navi Mumbai ko. Kills of literally one of the few remaining good things about Mumbai.
"Do you apologise to football fans? The Premier League says 'sham' contracts, is this a 'sham' club?"

Saddening scene at Ha Noi airport.
Our group of 8 were waiting for shuttle to transfer from Domestic terminal to International terminal. Behind us were a group of old age Indian couples.
Just as the shuttle arrived and we were getting in, 3 young couples (who were well-dressed and looked educated) came there and tried to jump the queue. I told them that others are waiting in queue. And there are old people waiting in queue. These people did not listen and forcefully entered sending the females in first. We told them that this is not good and tarnishing our countries image too. They got abusive and threatening.
The old age people would have missed their flight and we let them go ahead of us and waited for another shuttle which was 15 min later.
We have barely made the connecting flight.
I have no other words for these "educated illiterates".
Unfortunately this is one of the many reasons we do not get respected well in many other countries. Many of us are extremely poor travellers.
Back in 2014, there was a man who was already aware of the irregularities involving Manchester City. That man now runs FIFA. The infamous Gianni Infantino, then UEFA General Secretary, abused his authority, shared confidential documents and, in short, outmanoeuvred the Investigatory Chamber, doing everything in his power to ensure that both Manchester City and PSG would merely receive a fine, avoiding a deeper investigation that could have led to a Champions League ban. All of these details were also revealed through Football Leaks.
Given his actions as UEFA General Secretary and, more recently, as FIFA President, I can only say, in my humble opinion, that Gianni Infantino has become a cancer on football and should have no place in the future of the game.
